  • Hey,
I've been trying really hard, however I did buy some YS sea bass for tea tonight - in fairness though it was only £1.58 for the 4 fillets. I made some really yummy borlotti bean soup on Sunday afternoon and then we had chicken and couscous for tea with some salad.

I am really running out of ideas now. Think I will post my list and see if anyone can help me. Have no idea what to do for tea tomorrow night, that's if there is anything I can make from what I have left.

Thanks for the thoughts though save2save, it's appreciated

  • Have you thought of making kedgeree with the skinless fish and rice? Normally use smoked haddock but un smoked works too. Sweat some of your frozen onion, add rice, curry powder, peas and stock, poach the fish in a little milk then flake into the pan with rest of the ingredients. Stir through and serve with poached egg on top or a green salad.

I always add dried fruit to couscous. Great combi with chickpeas.

Don't have your list in front of me but baguettes make great frenchbread pizzas. Slice in half lengthwise, top with onion, tomatoes and herbs. Sprinkle with cheese and put in the oven for 15mins.

It's so easy to get stuck in a rut so hope these couple of ideas help. Good luck

  • On the dessert front you could try your hand at profiteroles. They are dead easy to make and use strong flour. You could use one of the Betty Crocker fudge mixes to fill them.

Rice pudding with sultanas or chopped dried apricots?

Pancakes? Again Betty Crocker fudge filling or mixed veg chilli filling for savoury

Soworried - what would you do to make the sausage casserole? Would it just be sausages and homemade dumplings with some peas and carrots or am I missing something. Thank you for your ideas x

I'd brown off the sausages and to the slow cooker/casserole dish with a can of the kidney beans drained, the can of tomatoes then add a pinch of mixed herbs and some onion and carrots from the fridge. We love this served with mash and dumplings :j

  • Save2save I made kedgeree tonight and it was lovely, thank you very much for the recipe.

I got my hands on some free tomatoes today so have used them to roast and add to couscous for lunch tomorrow with the red pepper that was looking a bit sad in the fridge.

Keep the recipes coming guys - I really appreciate all the support

Sorry I missed your question before; yes I just use any veggies hanging around and then the pulses :-D

We did similar tonight; all the veg left over from Sunday roast with a stripped chicken breast, soaked barley and veg stock turned into a fab tasty filling winter stew :D

I've just made a list of all mine and it has been a real eye opener, I didn't think I had much in but I really do.
I'm going to keep eating from our stores as much as possible. I keep a rolling freezer list but I have never done the cupboards before:o
