The thought of sorting it is daunting, at least the second freezer is full of fresh meat and i know where to look for it lol x
You need ziplock bags to get rid of those plastic trays that food comes in. You can fit loads more in that way. Also, take the pizzas out of the boxes as they take up valuable space. I've stopped buying ice as I had a habit of chucking it away when I bought yet more reduced meat that I needed to fit in.0 -
Another food hoarder owning up here
My larder is particularly bad as I make preserves, and there are a couple of shelf- fulls of those
I love the idea of taking something from the freezer + something from the cupboard and making something each day. I will try that! In fact, that is what I am doing today - a vension joint from the freezer roasted for supper, and baking ingredients from the cupboard, plus some manky bananas for a cake0 -
Okay, here goes with some food suggestions
-
Lasagne - using the mince, white and red sauce jars, added garlic, yellow pepper (if you like)
-
Jacket potatoes with beans - simple!
-
Prawn cocktails using the seafood sauce and king prawns in freezer
-
Brie and cranberry toasties - delish!
-
Make some flapjacks from the oats and golden syrup/butter etc.
-
Veg curry made from winter veg pack, apricots, curry powder and add some coconut milk. Use the pilau rice, naan breads and poppadoms too! Oh, and the mango chutney!
-
Have some sort of sunday dinner to use the Yorkshire puds, sausages in bacon, grilled chicken breasts? homemade gravy
-
Spag bol using the sauce mix, and garlic bread to dip
-
Have a go at making your own bread with the bread mixes
There's just a few to start with - the possibilities are endless! AlmostBe who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.

Thanks for every ones ideas.
We have had a very quiet *hung-over* day here after being at friends last night.
I have started my meal plan for the next week, however it isn't finished, it mainly uses the ready meal situation I have going on.
Today we have had some of the soup and bread for lunch followed by the 2 ys pizzas for dinner.
Tomorrow we are going to 2 of the jacket potatoes with some cheese and beans for lunch and then have the cod and potatos bravas thingy for dinner.
Friday is going to be new recipe day - going to make the lemon risotto as suggested, I'm going to use the king prawns in it as well. ( I cant face using the seafood sauce, sorry, I only bought it as we did Christmas lunch here and some of the grandparents like it)
Keep the ideas coming, as and when some more of the meal plan is finished I will post.
I'm really glad I posted now as all you other food hoarders have made me feel lots better about it. Thanks again everyone :A0 -
Re meal planning - do you take meat out of freezer to defrost overnight or do you do it in the morning? I am never sure how long things take to defrost and when I think about what I want to cook in the morning for tea the same night I end up nipping to shop for meat as don't know if I have long enough to defrost it??:o0

Either for me, unless it's a joint of meat or whole chicken etc which of course would take longer. If it's the night before I leave it out as the kitchen is cold the stick it in the fridge in the morning, if in the morning I usually just leave it on the worktop until early evening unless it the height of summer.0 -
Out shelves are fit to bursting too and there are only two of us :rotfl: Anyway we are going to move soon and really don't want to face the embarrassment of having to move enough food to feed a small continent.
. So we are on a mission similar to yours.
As others have already mentioned it is at least a good way of saving money! I am particularly looking forward to using up the baking supplies... we have loads of yummy ingredients and as it is all four a good cause we can indulge although it does go against my healthy eating plans..needs must :rotfl:0 -
Well you're all making me feel much better as I often end up leaving bits and pieces on the worktop in the kitchen until there's a space in the cupboard to fit them in after I've been shopping
I also need to have a sort and clear out... I hadn't thought of it as cash on the shelves before!! :eek:Happiness is not getting what you want - it's wanting what you have
(I can't remember the originator!)0 -
Hi
Just popped back to see how it's going.
How about your ready meals for Saturday night and all the roast dinner it's for Sunday.
My husband has a great recipe for chops that uses maple syrup, I will look it out for when you have another new dish day.
Keep plugging away x0 -
Oh this thread has made me smile and has prompted another confession!! I am another guilty-as-charged food hoarder! OH had to put up shelves under the stairs to house all my kitchen electrical equipment, to make room in my kitchen cupboards for stockpiling even more food! As well as having two large freezers in the garage stuffed fit to burst! I don't know where this compulsion to hoard food comes from but I am determined that this year I am going to tackle it.
Thanks other hoarders for cheering me up and good luck in reducing your stockpiles!"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0
