  • Been shopping today with dd (poor thing was full of a cold and has a wobbly tooth and she was still a good pal to shop with tracking the list and ticking off items)
    Ald! - £41.30
W@itrose £13.93 (plus free newspaper and free mocha for dd)
Farm shop £10.37 (plus free cakes for me and dd with loyalty card)
So that brings us to a £65.60 spend which I am very pleased with. DS is making chicken chow mein at school tomorrow which I had forgotten about so will redo the meal plan for next week now I have some fresh chicken!

    Dinners Mon - friday :

    1. Chicken chow mein care of DS
    2. Prawn risotto (fresh stock made) with peas and risotto
    3. Chicken fajitas
    4. HM Quiche in freezer with HM wedges and baked beans
    5. Creamy tuna spaghetti and garlic bread

This will take us to the end of January and now the fridge is stocked for packed lunches and have plenty of F&V and milk/bread/cereal and snacks we should be fine budget wise but I will declare official total on the last day of Jan (DH may buy wine!)

    SLM

Do you please have the prawn risotto recipe please.

    NSD for me.

All throughout last year I was very ill and had my groceries delivered by Asd@, but now I am better I have decided to walk to the shops and fetch it myself, rucksack on back and carrier bags in hands (quite determined not to have a trolley). I trotted off this morning confident it would be a breeze, I am back home now and am half dead!

I needed quite a few staples like bread flour and cooking oil, vegetables, butter, etc, all heavy stuff. I think I need to consider shopping more often.

In my defense, I have been running down the freezer and stock cupboard so I could clean them and I needed to restock now that is done.

Anyway, I spent £25.01 and I don't need any more shopping until next weekend, hopefully. So that means my total for January is £36.44.

Being very nosey here, but may I ask why you are determined not to get a trolly. You have been ill and need to be kind to yourself.
carrying heavy shopping and ending up half dead is not helping you at all. Also shopping more often leads to temptation so could do damage to the budget.

Is it an age thing, you think trollys are only for old ladies? not so these days I see lots of trendy young ones using them . Have a look when you next go shopping

I wish had thought to get one years ago as carrying heavy bags has seriously damaged my joints to the extent that now cant carry a bag with even a few items in without my hands locking up with severe cramp.

thanks i have decided to do gammon, (in the pot now) mash a few roasties cauli cheese cabbage and carrots (will remember to take a photo)

Maybe do a little gravy for the veg but put gammon on opposite side :)

i have mustard for the glaze along with treacle, to say its my first attempt its going well so far.
got to let it cool once its finished in the pot then will roast for half hour.

I wouldn't serve a gravy with Gammon I do a parsley sauce or even parsley butter.

5 days to go till Jan ends and have left £60.16 left which will be fine. I did get another sack of potatoes yesterday and noticed they were £1 cheaper than last bag. They are same as last ones so hope they keep as well as we had only 2 that were thrown away.

Never had the haggis yesterday as DH was not well, seems ok now though so may have it tomorrow.

Thanks to who ever about the lamb in coop as want some for Thursday so will take a look tomorrow or Tuesday at it.

Hi Billie-Jo I posted about the lamb and also put it in food and groceries, it dosent seem to be available in all areas and is not on the website so will be interested if you get some. Theres plenty here in Telford and my brother got some in Birmingham, but a poster in north west said none in her store Perhaps it might be wise to phone your store before going?

    NSD :)

Up too late for breakfast :( finished off the sardines for dinner (hubby had soup) and then was invited to DD3's for a chicken dinner for tea! So all in all, has been a lovely relaxing day for me :)

Got an Asdi order coming early in the morning which will use up more of my January budget, but am well under so I'm really happy :)

Despite needing top-ups I kept putting off going to the supermarket because of the carp weather. Somehow managed to do without everything I so badly needed. However, I couldn't do thai curry today without thai curry paste so £1.30 spent leaving me with a nice £45.99 left for this week. I can almost taste victory of coming under budget - just one weekly shop to go.
