Had to buy some bread, milk, pasta etc. yesterday, but went with all own brand stuff. Had to be M0rrisons rather than A!di, but that was just logistics.

Had a scheduled day out today, but took a picnic and had a minimal spend.

DH is really onboard and we are planning NSDs when he goes back to work and kids are back at school next week! Really enjoying the challenge.

  • Hello all,

Cheering from the sidelines this month as I was a bit useless for being online when the challenge started. I have had 2 SFDs (very doubtful I'd manage20 tbf) and I will donate to the foodbank as per.

I just wondered if anyone had used amaz0n for selling books and if they had found it to be any good? I have stacks of books that I've read (and won't read again) and would like to sell them ... I can always fleabay them - but just wondered about amaz0n :)

    Good luck all!

Cariads- i never found value loo roll that good as it was much cheaper but was small rolls and needed to use more! i found lidl stuff best as in between (eg cheap and still thick!) :p

traveller- well done on not booking your flights! :A i know how hard it is! i have delayed going to india in march so am going to be debt free april/may and am going to go in oct instead as i will be able to pay in full. this will be my first ever long holiday paid for before i go as i usually go then pay. its what my debt is from my last one! but then friend mentioned she is going se asia in march and asked if i wanted to go and i was mentally doing calculations as to whether i could afford it and luckily thought 'no you cant!' :naughty:

Tiptoes and Fmess- perhaps we should have group swop shop for unwanted flavours :rotfl:

Fmess- could you try changing salads for hm veg soups? much cheaper and more filling than salad plus nice and warm on a cold day :D i also snack on some veg like carrots and beetroot to reduce my fruit a bit as veg is cheaper (but still eat apples, oranges, bananas and frozen raspberries).

so another sfd for me! thats three now which is much better than i usually do :A have been to the gym this morning and was going to go into city to do two mystery shops but i couldnt be bothered as it was cold and raining. have rearranged to do next weekend as got another few to do then anyway.

so spent the afternoon researching my holiday to india to keep me focused on getting the debt cleared :A i will be booking it this month as can get an offer on the flights where we pay £49 deposit and will pay £150 on tour deposit then once im debt free i will be able to pay both off when due and have enough time to save spends. been reading up on vaccinations and not sure what i will need so will ask at docs when i next go. think i will need hep b course again as didnt get booster as wasnt told i needed one. looked on nhs website and it says i should have had a blood test to check it worked so may ask for this and then will know if i needed it. but plus side dont think i need anything else so that shaved £100 off vacination budget :D

    Good evening.

Wow... a lot of inspirational stuff on here. We seem to be quite a varied mix of people. Very supportive of each other though which I think is really lovely.
    :)

Anyways... down to business. This is spend-free day number 3!!
    :j

The joys of nightshifts mean that I sleep all day so no chance to spend anything.
    ;)

Have managed to cut down my dietary intake which is good... but like others, was wondering if running around at work would count as exercise??
    :p

I have been very good and put in for three extra nightshifts... that's a whole extra weeks work. And I still have my February holiday free. (won't get paid the extra week until the end of march though).
    :D

Hope everyone is having a great day/night.
    :)

  • Awwwww this is what I like to wake up to ! :rotfl:Thank you very muchus! You should join today though! Last chance...? Gonna close the doors today...?

Thanks for the offer NSK :) But I am going to say no for this time, but will definitely be looking out for the Feb thread when it's time. I'm just getting back on the forums properly after life got in the way a bit, so I don't want to over commit and fail before the end of the first month! I'll be keeping an eye on everyone's progress though :D

purplejay frozen noodles are fine. I freeze anything we had for dinner to take for lunch, may it be noodles, pasta, rice, couscous etc.

Re loo roll. I tried value loo roll and agree it was too thin. Found the best value to thickness and softness is Spr1ngf0rce I get in Tesco. 9 roll for 2.50 I think.

    SFD number 3 today.

Splodge I have sold books on amaz0n. Text books and cookery books. I found the service pretty good and used the credit to pay towards Xmas presents:)

3rd SFD today and should hopefully achieve another tomorrow as we are walking again and taking a packed lunch and a flask and biccies for when we get back to the car.

I will need parking money for tomorrow which will be the first spend out of my £40 entertainment budget. I turned down an invitation to join friends and their kids for tea out tonight which would have cost us £40. I am planning to take DS swimming next weekend which will be about £10 for the three of us.

I must make a list of my freezers and cupboards and use up/freeze some fresh bits I have in the fridge.

We are doing dry January so no alcohol so far even though we have port, sherry, champers, a dozen bottle of wine and a case or 2 of GF lager:eek: it should keep us going a while in February and march;)

I've sold books on Amaz0n but this can take a while, you list them and then wait for a buyer. I think the listing is valid for a year, and you are only charged if they sell.

I have also sold to Amaz0n on their trade-in scheme. I really liked this as you type in the barcode, they give you a price, you choose whether to accept, and then print off a postage label and drop them at the post office. The prices vary (some as low as 25p for new current books) but I was really pleased with some of the prices they offered for some of my books.

  • Hi all
Had my first ever planned SFD yesterday, it made me realise how easily I bought things especially from eBay. Many more to come hopefully, have also spent a ton of time sorting general finances and balance transfers. Loving it and reading everyone's posts. Can anyone suggest a good spending tracker app?

Fmess and clippy_girl- oh if only there was some way to swap!* DH LOVES the coffee ones, and that is the only reason we (and I really mean he) buy them. I hate to have chocolate in the house. He's bought two tins this xmas just for the coffee ones. Guess who has eaten all the rest. I have NO willpower :o We were just joking the other day about setting up some national 'rosesbay' where people could exchange their uneaten ones for other's favourites!

*and if only we had some left to swap!!
