Disappointing news. OH needed to borrow £150 till payday on the 20th as he overspend going out etc in December. Grrr....

This sounds familiar! My OH announced today that his bank account is empty and he has 3 1/2 weeks until his next payday!!!!

He hasn't yet asked for a loan so think he must be planning on flying to work on a magic carpet...

  • Evening all,

[/B]MrsGBR[/B] - sounds like your having a tough time of it. Hope things look up for you soon.

Beckyboo - your daughter is an inspiration and has the attitude I'd like my own to grow up having. Please share your thoughts on how you raised her to be so sensible

Pinkylds - if your in a bad relationship getting out before debt busting sounds sensible. Are you safe?

NSK - In my own experience complacency follows great achievements. It's probably due to mental exhaustion from all your hard work. Try motivating yourself with visualizing your savings goal, pictures and new spreadsheets? Don't beat yourself up though, it's normal.

Today I baked rolls and bread to prevent breaking a SFD, so that takes me to 2/ 20. Tomorrow will be a spend day as I have to buy groceries but will try to limit it to just veggies. Came home from Xmas hols with family late last night so not done my online banking yet. As such my debts in signature is still not fully consolidated - will do it over the next couple of days when CC balances will be correct. Not looking forward to it...

Lashing it down here so not ventured out but will do my exercise tomorrow. Very inspirational getting all the updates - keep me coming!

Edit: done my internet banking and have what I think is an accurate debt figure. Well, the figure which is up for current tackling that is.
Finally had my eyes opened and I am ready to tackle my debts!

    Debt-free and Proud!
Just in from work and wondering if I can count 4 hours bringing out 6 cages of stock, putting the boxes out, and putting the stock out and sweating like a beast as this weeks exercise? The boxes were blooming heavy too AND I walked round the entire shop several times tonight. I call that at east two weeks worth of sessions surely ;)

It's not about the money, it's about financial freedom, being in control of it and living in the natural world and not a material world
  • Hello, sorry for not checking in earlier - I'm away from home but back tomorrow.

Have not spent anything since the start of the challenge, which is great but will need to get a train ticket today.
Tomorrow should also be SF so I feel I've had a good start to the month so far, although it'll be harder when I'm back home and everything is back to normal.
    Seriously money saving
  • KITTYBOO - I also have all my credit cards at 0%. I don't have any emergency fund particularly as my thinking is that if an emergency arises I would use the credit card and then shift that amount to a 0%. I prioritise who to pay off by first by which cards 0% is due to run out first. If they are the same, I then then prioritise by paying off the smallest card first. Did this this month and has been really motivating knowing I only have 2 credit card debts now instead of 3. This was also the card whose 0% was due to run out first.
This is only what I do so will be really interested to hear what others think and do!

I don't have debt at the moment (and am very lucky to be in this position) but when I did I always used to keep a small savings post just in case. I could use it to pay off a card if the 0% was due to run out, but some emergencies can't be covered with a credit card - repairs to the house for example if you're getting a tradesman in.

I used to pay off the smallest cards first as motivation too - the Payment A Day thread was a miracle for me, and I still save based on that principle too.

I do often wonder how she is growing up so sensible and level-headed with such a good work ethic myself!!! To be really honest she has seen her dad and I go through quite a lot in her short 15 years. I had her when I was only just 17 and her dad was 21. I was at college and her dad in his final year at uni. Her dad stuck by me and we both finished our courses. When she was a month old, we found out her dad had cancer which he then battled for a year. Although she is too young to remember this, this year put us in a lot of financial hardship which stayed with us for many years as our families wee not in a financial position to help us. After a year he briefly went into remission and we moved to Cardiff so that I could start uni while OH worked. However, after 6 weeks of being there we found out his cancer had come back and he was ill for another few months, putting us in yet more debt. He then went into remission and we worked hard while I finished uni. He worked full time and accepted any overtime he could get while I went to uni and worked nights at Asda. By the end of uni she was 4 and I suppose seeing her dad and I working a lot. We then moved back to devon to be closer to my family and I suppose this is really where her strong work ethic has been instilled in her. We came back with huge debts and over the last 10 years she has seen her dad and I turn our hands to anything and everything we needed to to earn. He is a graphic designer and I am one a teacher, but alongside those jobs she has seen us always have second jobs alongside as well. She has never been spoilt with material things as we simply couldn't afford them, but I have always taught her to save for things she wanted with her birthday/Christmas money, often saying that if she saves half, I will save the other half. I suppose the key has been that she has always seen that if she wants something she has to work hard for it. Earning her own money from a job when she was 13 (washing neighbours cars and doing odd jobs for them) has given her a sense of what her money is worth and what she can get for her money. Like I said before, she is a bargain queen and really shops around for things she wants at the best price.
She does have an amazing work ethic, which I am soooooooooo proud of, and I just hope her younger sister and 2 brothers grow up with the same!
Really sorry - that turned into a really long post - your question just got me thinking!!!!
