  • Loveadove.. you have been successfully brainwashed! Welcome to the dark side of picking up pennies in the street with no shame. Siouxsie you have paved (ha ha) the way for this skill in particular! But the one thing that you have mention LD is to "keep at it".

Have a mission in mind, keep focused, and stay determined. I am reading another book at the minute which uses the same skills that I learned through-out my course of debt busting and I am going to hone my personal being into something a little more endearing, successful and personable. It's called "Brilliant Personal Development" - you have no idea just how much financial "honing and toning" will lead to enabling control to take precedence in other aspects of your life. It's life changing I feel like writing a book - ha!

However - to those who cannot speak to their OH's about this, or whose OH's don't listen, don't want to play the "pay off debts" game - what do you think it would take for them to sit up and take notice?
“Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent".

Hi folks just popping in. Will update totals in a bit, got so much going on at the moment, my mind hasn't been focused this month. Sisters funeral tomorrow, be glad to get that out the way.

Seem to have ate out a lot last week, just hate being at home, as the phone has been ringing non stop. Had a lovely lunch out yday, 2 hrs talking abs dribble with a friend is what I needed.

Roll on February, can't wait for normality to take over and get back to challenges, plus its a short month.

Fmess good choice to pay off cc rather than save. I found out that I needed cash tho last month to pay a roofer as I got it so much cheaper, so just doing 365 pounds in 365 days challenge.

Kat has brainwashed the lot of us. I now try on clothes and put them back not losing a SFD for anything.

Catch up in a few days time hopefully.

Wow!! That sounds LONG! I love my long-time Contenders like nothing on this earth! Thanks for sticking with me!!!

Yep started with NOvember in 2012 and got stuck. You were a great inspiration and see what you have achieved. Tried a few challenges but this one is the only one I stuck to despite falling off the wagon now and then. Great leader and motivator, and amazing support from everybody here.

I have to do the round about way with OH, as financial matters are a very private thing for him and keeping face meant a lot. He would be horrified by what I share with you "strangers" here. But over the years I trained him well and he learnt a lot. Especially after having a kid, buying a house and getting engaged he changed "himself" :rotfl: a lot. With hindsight people would probably be saying I took quite a risk going down the route of having children, buying a house etc. with his former self and without any security, which I only have now after 10 years together.

Just realised my Jan CC needs paying by 20th Feb but I don't get paid until the 21st! Already paid Dec CC with this wage so there's not enough left to pay the Jan one.

Panic? This time last year - Yes!!! Would have involved borrowing from Hubby which would have put him into his OD and we'd have spent a couple of months catching up.
This year - Noooo! For I now having savings:T so I have borrowed from my savings to pay it off, knowing I'll be able to pay my savings back when I get paid :D Hopefully I won't need to use my CC this month so I can still save extra on top :j

Not so much borrowing from Peter to pay Paul but borrowing from his missus to pay his missus:rotfl:

I do talk to my DH about money, and he is keen to pay off debts, however he is not so keen to employ the methods I have learnt from here and doesn't get what a SFD is, he says he doesn't spend alot but he doesn't seem to realise that those little spends on just "stuff" do add up considerably.
He told me he has to clear his OD on his personal account the other day as well as the "oh I forgot I had it till a payment went out" CC which has made the totals go up :(
It annoys me because I am on very little money yetI have managed to clear a credit card in a short space of time and stash money into savings and he just keeps going back in the red.
I don't know what it would take tbh, me going through his bank statement with a highlighter pen?

Spendy day here. Took DD to the doctor, she has influenza :( so she will be off school for a few days. I have had to buy calpol and I decided to fill the car up too, (all spends in one day!)
Need to order some waterfilters for the kettle today too
DH suggested we use the free two months council tax on our car tax but guess wha? We appear to be on 12 monthly cos the payment has gone out! I've had to do a reshuffle this month so i can get my car tax which means no personal spends at all and no Pilates'classes, I have some money saved for it but not the full whack. Still a bit miffed though!
Must get some more OT this week and make sure I get the mney that wasn't paid this month added on to next month, should give me room to pay off more of the CC.

I am grateful however, for the fact that my spending CC is all paid off, that my car tax was'paid'for by my debit card, it's the little things I guess.

Couldn't you get the prescription version of Calpol free from the doctors??

I have paid an extra £30 off my overdraft today. Very pleased about that. Also found 1p in the street so that has gone into the coppers jar which gets cashed every so often and paid into the bank.

I didn't change my alarm clock from the weekend and was woken up by DD at 7.20am (we normally get up at 7.00am) it isn't like her to be awake but thank heavens she was but that has thrown me all day.

Went to post some ebay parcels and also did some grocery shopping, went to the green grocers armed with a list with Sainsburys price/kg written on so I could compare, some were slightly cheaper but most were more so I had to go to Asda for apples, cucumber and peppers. The cucumber was 50p in Asda but £1.10 in the grocers and the peppers were £1 in A's against £1.76 (for 3), I'm all for supporting small businesses but not to that extent. It is worth checking the prices and not just assuming it's cheaper at the grocers.

Tried to buy neck of lamb in the butchers but neither had it in as people don't buy it often enough, I will have to call back and ask them to order it for me.

Have walked the dog and even changed my route to take in a big hill.

Dolly84, I did ask but that particular doctor is funny about it, it depends which doctor you see.
