Is this worth returning to M and S?

Hi, my son purchased a quite expensive handbag from M&S as a Christmas present for me. As I pulled out all of the padding, I noticed a small slip of paper stating that the left hand magnetic clasp is not magnetic enough. Sure enough the right hand magnetic clasp is a lot more magnetic.
I was quite annoyed, as this "small" fault had obviously been spotted. I felt the price should have been reduced accordingly. Do you think it is worth returning to the store or am I being too critical?

Has he given you the receipt, perhaps it was bought as a second, make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
I have the receipt, his dad gave it to me (as he purchased it), I'm just debating whether to take it into town or just accept that I got a "second".
It was full price.0 -
Is there anything wrong with it?0

Go and change it if you can.
If you like the bag and there aren't any more, then email M and S explaining the problem and ask for a % reduction that you think is fair (for keeping the bag that you have). It's their choice whether or not to give you a reduction, and your choice whether or not to accept the reduction.
I don't think the bag is worth full price with vastly different magnetic clasps.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.0 -
Nothing I couldn't live with but one magnetic clasp is almost non-existent - it has two, one either side of a zip. Once you put something in it, the clasp will not keep closed, potentially making it easier for pickpockets?
I was quite shocked to find this slip in the bag. I believed M&S had higher standards and feel it should have been marked as a "second". The bag itself was £79. Not a cheap item!0 -
Thanks for all of your replies. I am going into town on Monday so I'll call in and hopefully they will be able to exchange it for a "perfect" one.0

The odd things inevitably slip through the net. Take it back, get a replacement, a refund, or a discount. You should have the option of all three.

My guess is someone inadvertently put it out for sale when it should have gone back as a second.
It does happen sometimes.Striving to clear the mortgage before it finishes in Dec 2028 - amount currently owed - £26,322.670 -
It does sound like a customer return tbh.;)0
