NYE: Stuck for ideas with a child in tow

I always feel so sorry for the very young and animals on NYE (or whatever occasion) when they cannot understand all the noise from fireworks is supposed to be fun. My poor cat often ends up a petrified wreck squidged as far under the sofa as he can get!:A Goddess :A0

i will be at home with sick buckets lined up for my 4 kids (adults) and blankets to make dens for my poor shuddering dogs who are frightended to gibbering wrecks by the loud bangs of fireworks. In my opinion a two year old should be snuggled into bed but Im old fashioned !I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.0 -
As I'll be at work at 6.45am New Year's day, I shall be tucked up in bed by about 10!
However, when we were young with our children as babies, we'd either tuck them up in their own beds/top and tail them in friends' childrens' beds and have a party at home/friends. They were safe under the same roof as we were - they didn't need to be awake to see in the New Year.0 -
So your kiddies can tell the time and know when it's 12 midnight??
They understand the concept of an hour or day, at three?
No, she can't tell the time, but she has a clock that she chose while out a few weeks ago and is desperate to learn. She has always loved fireworks regardless of the time of day. She knows the concept of a day, certainly, knowing which days she goes to nursery etc. And she knows that its daddy's birthday not long after the fireworks. But this is all besides the point.Trying to be a man is a waste of a woman0 -
So if you were staying at your sisters YOU weren't dragging any poor child out in the middle of the night anyway ........so I'm not sure why you're quoting my post. (How did you get to your sisters ...transporter ?
We'd been there all day........
Sorry, I assumed your post was following the conversation. As it was a couple of posts after mine I assumed my post was included.Trying to be a man is a waste of a woman0 -

I think you assumed it was aimed at you.....I'm not saying toddlers shouldn't join in celebrations if they are awake but for me dragging toddlers out to proper parties (rather than family style gatherings) or to firework displays in the cold isn't the best thing for them ......but then I was one of those Mums whose toddler was routinely asleep for thirteen hours from 6pm to 7am at two . I'm not a fan of new year anyway -it seems people are either peed or maudlin ...so I can't be bothered with it . I'm working til 11pm NYE and will be fielding calls from people who won't even be able to speak coherently -which won't add to my enthusiasm for it either LOLI Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole
MSE Florida wedding .....no problem0 -
Small children IMO should stick to a routine, and be in bed.
I normally watch on beach miles away from the UK, this year I'll be back in time for NYE the 1st time for 15 years, and I'll be tucked up in bed, along with the cat snuggled on the bed.......and we will be both happy.Breast Cancer Now 100 miles October 2022 100 / 100miles

DD sleeps 12-13 hours but not until 8:30/9pm, which works for us.
I do feel for you - my sister is a police officer. NYE is going to be pretty minging for her too!!Trying to be a man is a waste of a woman0 -
I wouldn't wake up a sleeping child - but given my LO has been awake every NYE midnight since birth (almost as tho she knows there is something going on) and given her sleeping habits over Xmas - I'm not counting on her snoozing through this one.
She can't yet make it through the day without a nap, so trying to wear her out and make her sleep thru isn't likely to work.We Made-it-3 on 28/01/11 with birth of our gorgeous DD.0 -
Mincepiemonster - I was 38 weeks pregnant NYE three years ago. I went to the pub and had a glass or two - people were very surprised to see a beached whale celebrating. I got chatting to some girls on the the next table to us and it was a group of trainee midwives - so I figured I was in safe hands should my LO decide to put in an early appearance. We Made-it-3 on 28/01/11 with birth of our gorgeous DD.0
