We could head into London for the fireworks but if the weather has been as it has lately, plus crowds and trying to get home ....
I've checked the TV schedule - just drivel. We did a games night on Boxing Day. Feeling bloated and unhealthy so even the idea of more food and alcohol isn't appealing at the moment.
Anyone have any fun and original ideas to see in 2014???

How far out of London are you? If there's a big hill nearby you drive up at midnight to get a look at fireworks all over the city from a distance?
If there's nothing you fancy doing though, there's no law that you have to celebrate new year, I won't be!0 -

That's what I'll be doing! DH is working so I'm taking DS, my mum and my car up to the top of a big hill so that we can see the fireworks."I may be many things but not being indiscreet isn't one of them"0 -
how old is child?
mine are 13 and 9 and we go to bed at normal time and then wake up early and great the dawn of the new year.
There's no law that you HAVE to be up until midnight to 'see in the new year'.
my dad & his wife go to the beach and great the new year's dawn with a glass of champagne...just in case you need to know:

We have a 6year old and we are doing a games night just the 3 of us. To be honest we've never been up for nights out in busy places and so a night at home with my most important is far more appealing
hope you have a nice night whatever you decide upon and happy new year

For past few years we have had friends round.
They all bring a dish of food to share. We provide drinks. We play Wii Party and group games and have some fireworks in the garden at midnight.
I gave up being in pubs/clubs/city centre type places when I was 23 - found them too claustrophobic, squashy and you had to wait forever to pay too much money for a drink you were going to end up spilling on someone else as you'd been barged.Who made hogs and dogs and frogs?

We normally don't have an evening meal and then watch films with picky food. We put the London coverage on just before midnight and open a bottle of sparkling wine, then go to bed when the fireworks have finished! Here I go again on my own....0

Child in question is nearly 3 yrs. Getting to a hill would be more inconvenient than going to the actual display in terms of transport.
Its supposed to be multi-sensory this year, so would be interesting to see if they can pull that off.
Would be nice to have people over, but we seem to have left it too late and everyone has plans already.
A bit stuck as never normally in the UK at New Year and especially with a small child too.We Made-it-3 on 28/01/11 with birth of our gorgeous DD.0 -
'With a child in tow'... what a delightful way to describe having offspring. You make it sound like a major inconvenience.:hello:0

Nibbly bits for tea and then Jools Holland Hootenanny.
There's no reason for a 3 year old to stay up until midnight just because it's New Year.Make £25 a day in April £0/£750 (March £584, February £602, January £883.66)
