Samsung Galaxy S3 Android 4.3 upgrade problems

I was prompted to update my Samsung Galaxy S3 software several days ago. Since installing the update I get a message "Unfortunately, System UI has stopped working" every time I change the orientation of the phone from portrait to landscape or back again. The phone freezes for anything from a few seconds to a few minutes. Sometimes the only way to recover is to restart the phone. Factory restore doesn't resolve the issue.
Various forums suggest that this software update has caused a variety of random phone problems including crashes, Wi-Fi issues, battery issues and UI System issues.
Samsung say that the only options are to have the phone re-flashed (at a service centre or by return to Samsung) or to wait for the next software update but they can't say when that update will happen. I asked whether it is likely to be days, weeks or months but they still couldn't say.
Has anyone else had problems with the Android 4.1.2 to Android 4.3 upgrade? It may affect other Galaxy models too.

No, there's no memory card.
I've followed all the advice on the Samsung web site but it hasn't helped. This included removing the battery for an hour and then fully discharging the battery and recharging with the phone switched off then doing a full factory reset. I've tried uninstalling all my of apps and it didn't help. I tried removing and re-inserting the sim card. I have done several more factory resets and the problem hasn't been resolved. I've tried to use Samsung Kies 3 to do an "Emergency Firmware Recovery" but the pop-up menus that follow are in strange hieroglyphics (language / font?) that I don't understand.
Customer support at Tesco Mobile and at Samsung both reckon the problem is most likely caused by bugs in the 4.3 upgrade.0 -
Not unknown for any upgrade to be a problem this upgrade is no different most have no problem.
If factory reset has not cured the problem then the only solution is for the firmware to be reflashed .
Next update may not fix and choice is Service Centre or flash the firmware yourself .Nothing else you can do with no full backup .0 -

You could download Odin + the firmware and reflash it yourself.0

Just downloaded 4.3 with no problems and that's with a 64 gb memory card.0

Colin_Dawson wrote: »Thanks for your reply Rusty!. How do I get the Odin plus the firmware? Do I need any special tools to do the reflash?
Odin is that tool
https://www.samfirmware.com should have everything you need0 -

When I try to download the firmware, I get a "File not found" error. Perhaps it's been removed because of the bugs it contains.0
