When my children were very small (quite a few years ago, now  ), I used to get sooo annoyed with cars blocking pavements, preventing buggies getting by, so I went to my local police station and they gave me a pile of A5 size stickers with "PAVEMENTS ARE FOR PEOPLE" on which I used to carry with me and stick on the windscreen of offending vehicles.....they were very sticky stickers, tee hee! Not sure if it ever stopped selfish parkers, but it really made me feel better :D
I've just dug one of the stickers out - looks like they were a joint initiative between Thames Valley Police, Oxfordshire County Council, the local district council and a disabled peoples organisation.

One evening at 5pm, some oik left their car blocking the driveway to the car park next to my block of flats. I didn't see it happen. It didn't block me in - I was parked elsewhere - but it did inconvenience several of the other residents.

It was still there at 11pm, so I went out to investigate. I discovered that the car keys were hanging in the drivers door lock! I took them ought and brought them in the house, leaving a note on the windscreen with my mobile number. After all, the car might get stolen if I left them like that.

Then I switched my mobile off for the night.

There was no sign of activity or contact by mid-morning the next day. I was going out, so I thought I'd better leave the keys somewhere and write a note telling the owner where they were. So I put the keys under a flower pot. At my destination. 150 miles away.

on our local news there was a woman complaining she had been ticketed because she was only a few inches on the pavement whilst she went to church. the local council says that the damage caused by cars parking on pavements is causing accidents for pedestrians who are therefore suing the councils.. Also on the same news a woman was fed up with people parking over her drive etc when functions were on in some hall near her she bought herself a parking clamp. she left a mobile number on there for them to contact and when they rang she said they couldnt remove it for at least four hours.. she would wait an hour then go out her house and remove it . should have seen the drivers faces..each time it happened she would wait longer and longer untill released. word got round and no one parks over her drive now.. she even put up a notice saying they would be clamped but people took no notice.. They do now

Just an update for those who are interested - I've now got a line of big, beautiful BOLLARDS outside my house! The local council surveyed the pavement and decided that the width was adequate for said bollards, and hey presto they installed them last Friday! You can't imagine the difference that they've made, and the look on motorist's faces is priceless when they realise that *shock horror* they've got to WALK a few extra yards to get to the local shop! Just proves that if you shout loud enough, you can be heard!

  • There was once a case in England where a pedestrian walked over the top of the cars that were parked on the pavement. he was taken to court. His defence was that he was walking on the pavement area.

    Does anyone know the outcome?

    Well done Norma.

Two houses down the road from me, they put on a lovely porch. Unfortunately it made the drive shorter. Now the car overhangs the pavement. They also have a big van that is often parked on the drive as well. It is so big that the rear tyres will only go halfway onto the drive (that is when they bother to go that far), and with the rest of the van it is at least 3ft over the pavement. I can't walk side by side with my son when we go down the road together. Very annoying.

I live on a main road.
Not much in the way of parking, so I park normally around the corner (not on the street that I live on) - on the road, tight up against the kerb (alloys ruined)

The road that I park on it perhaps 3 1/2 cars wide if that makes sense.

In the past week I've had 3 notes left on my windscreen "you are causing an abstruction (sic), move it!" I guess from someone who actually lives on the street that I park on.

I park away from the corner (there is a single white line to ensure that you do), and do not block any drivers or access.

I guess the issue is that the street is narrow?

    Am I being unreasnoble?

Dont bother wasting your time on people who dont like you

Doesn't sound unreasonable to me, dell! Sounds like someone wants a clear run through - wouldn't we all like that in an ideal world! (Just a thought - you don't park on the opposite side to everyone else, causing a chicane, do you?!)
