Where I live they've all chosen to have gardens instead of drives, so they all park on the pavement! So you have to walk round the corner on the roadMurphy's No More Pies Club #209

I live in a tiny village that does get quite busy with tourists in the summer months, my house fronts directly on to the pavement where drivers seem to think they've got a God-given right to park right across my front door step, blocking the pavement entirely......my house has been hit by numerous car doors and I've been almost run over on a couple of occasions. The police, in fairness, are very good, but obviously can't patrol 24/7, but the local council are dragging their feet regarding the installation of bollards/railings on this stretch of pavement as they said there isn't enough room to erect bollards and to allow for disabled access. Bloody hell! - no-one, even the able-bodied can get by NOW! I've really had enough of stand-up rows with selfish motorists who can't be bothered to walk 100 yards from the perfectly adequate car park down the road. What I'm wondering is, do I have any legal redress against the council for when (not if!) my house is damaged or I am injured? Sorry for the rant!
Good to see others are as annoyed with this as me.
I see mums with kids in puschairs regularly having to
walk in the main road because of selfish lazy good for nothing mortorists parking on the pavement.
Ther ought to be a law against it...oh actually there is but no one seems to enforce it. Makes you wonder why you have to pay the police part of the rates.

Its in the high way code "Dont park/drive on a pavement" something like code 2**
The police could give £30 tickets for 1) causing a unnecessary obstruction and 2) driving on something other than a road
Theres a big campaign on at the moment in the North East posters every where.0 -
The police are issuing a LOT of £30 penalities ilovefreebies - that's when they're patroling and actually catch the barstewards in the act, but unfortunately they can't be here all the time - the local sergeant actually 'phoned me last week to say that enough was enough and that HE was going to speak to the highways dept. of the council.......but no word yet!"I'm ready for my close-up Mr. DeMille...."0

I agree Police should clamp down on this. We pay far too much council tax, and Police precept from council tax. The Police always seem to say lack of resources. Perhaps its me, but why isn't this money from fines paid for by the very people who break the law so that this money can fund Police rather than the poor council tax payer paying more.
Where a friend of mine lives they all appear to have driveways/garages but most of the cars seem to be parked on the pavement. If that happened outside my house god forbid, there would be anarchy on the streets most likely from there very people who do it on there own streets.

We have the same problem with motorists parking round our area too. This is because we live about a minutes walk from the town's railway station car park. And the problem there is that the carpark usually fills up pretty early in the morning and is quite costly for the whole day. So now we have motorists who use up all of our visitor spaces, and at times have even parked in people's drives or blocking people's drives to the point where people have called the council to get them towed so they can get their car in and out of the driveway.Titch

I have to say I totally agree with you about selfish motorists. I see it from 2 points of view .
1 as a mum who has to risk life and limb to wheel a pram onto a road because cars are parked on pavements .Also as a flat owner with a private parking space which I couldn't use for people blocking it or unathourised people using it .
2 as an ex police officer who would love to have spent more time dealing with prats who think they rule the road and pavements and even worse those who park on zig zags at schools etc.
I had no qualms when I had a free moment about delaing with such things. But unfortunatley there just was not enough hours in the day to deal with such stuff. We could start a debate about whose fault that is but at the end of the day that wouldn't help you in the slightest.
confronting the offenders isn't really an option either as they know where you stay ! Taking the matter into your own hands is also likely to backfire. Doesn't it always! Which just leaves you going round in circles and no better off. How about your local Mp or newspaper could they perhaps do a story about council and perhaps get things going .
Other than that sorry couldn't be much help.
perhaps the only thing that would would be for something to happen as a result of them being there and then perhaps the wheels would move a bit quicker.I have never met a calorie yet I didn't like!!0 -
In my opinion the local authorities are absolutely useless at dealing with these matters I live in a block of 12 flats an ex council flat. We have 3 car parking spaces to share between us. This has worked quite well with the exception of summer when the local twits from the cricket club behind where I live decide they are going to park across the entrance to the 3 parking spaces. Complaints and friendly requests to the cricket club and council have fallen on deaf ears, and low and behold guess what appears outside our block of flats 3 months ago a bus stop!. I wouldn,t mind but i live in a street where all the other houses have at least 2 off road parking spaces!0

As the mother of a baby and 3 year old I regularly have to walk out onto a busy road with pushchair and toddler in tow due to some idiot parking half and half on the pavement. The pavements aren't that wide to start with.
Another thing that really annoys me as a "walker" is the roadwork fellers that put the great big free standing roadsigns on the pavement to warn motorists that traffic lights are ahead, thus making anyone with a pushchair/wheelchair use the road.
Rant over.

Since I was young (oh so many years ago) I was unable to understand vandalism, and still can't.Binxy wrote:I can't tell you how often i've wanted to scrape my key right down the side of their pretty shiny cars
However fellow in corner house drove me over the edge. My wife is disabled, and I got sick and tired of having to walk around his pavement-parked car in the road rendered a blind corner thus exposing us to real danger through his selfish habits. Of course he could not park in his garden, the other 6 cars were in the way!
I usually could not squeeze between his car and the hedge, but when I managed, the car got the key treatment.
Not seen the car on the pavement since.
Vandalism? Citizens' Justice I say.
