Pay ALL your debt off by Xmas 2014!

Just realised that I didn't check in for October, I normally update each month.
Still no luck on the job front. It's four months now and I'm starting to get a little bit panicky, as my redundancy money won't last forever. I've applied for over 300 jobs in that time with no success.
Job hunting is horrible - have my fingers crossed someone likes your CV soon!happybunny86 wrote: »I've been using the You Need A Budget method so I have smaller buffer built up for unexpected payments. I was concerned I should be spending this money on paying off debt at first but I've found it helps me to relax and the possibility of unexpected costs and to be more confident budget all of my wages into a bucket so they all have a job to do. Previously I'd budget and leave behind money for 'what ifs' but some how they always got spend on something.
Completely each to their own though.
Everyone has a different system.
I'm quite intrigued by this, might look into it in December. Some of it sounds like very sensible stuff!happybunny86 wrote: »That's a much better way of putting what I meant about a blow out... Balance looks healthy, buy something, realise everything else I need to pay for... Oops!
I'm always doing this. On the 15th I see I have over half my budget left for the month, spend it, then realise I have no money left for something I actually need!0 -
Apologies as I haven't checked in for ages. Feel as though I have failed miserably. I've been inundated with bills, including a few unexpected ones. Then to top it off, I bought a Peugeot on the passport scheme, I was due to hand it back January 2015, rang to finalise everything only to find out the mileage allowed for 3 years is 18000, I've done 29000. Hence a whopping bill of £1000 + to return it. Devastated. Own stupid fault for not reading the t&c's. Lesson learnt.
Onward's and upwards. Will update my depressing totals tomorrow and hopefully make some progress towards getting back on track.
Apologies for my rant.
I probably would have done the same - I didn't realise they did this until a work colleague told me that the same thing happened to his wife. 18000 isn't a lot of mileage for 3 years - it sounds like they have set it up in a way to catch most people out.blackberrycurved wrote: »I also haven't checked in for ages and feel that I'm failing. Last year I got this thread through on my phone and this year no matter how I try I don'y get the alerts when someone posts so I haven't got the motivation I had. I was okay but I've had to put a massive £830 on credit card - £330 was my car insurance for the year. The rest is train and overnight accommodation when I've been working away that I'm still waiting on getting paid for. I'll do some figures and then come in with my total. I really thought I could do it by Christmas ah well.
That's a pain! Is it a smartphone? Can you set it as a favourite to check in regularly? BTW, whatever happened with your M(IL?)?
I'm afraid to say I've been pretty rubbish at checking in this month too! I didn't realise it had been so long since I updated the spreadsheet  We are off on holiday this week - getting very excited! We originally were saving to go out next year, but found a deal too good to pass up on. We basically got the holiday for half the priceWe've had a mad rush to get ourselves together, as it snuck up on us  Anyway, I'll see you all in around 10 days

Something must have shifted in the universe! Back in September my flatmate made a mistake while putting my salary check through resulting in me not getting paid. It was a disaster! I had to go through process of requesting a statement, getting my boss to cancel the check, issuing another one, getting my account frozen on suspected fraud and basically not being able to access any of my money for three weeks. What a fun that was!
However... As a result I managed to survive on scraps of loose change, on petrol leftovers and guilt of my flatmate who paid for all the food shopping for a month. So when my cheque finally cleared I managed to pay off a mammoth sum of £758.34 towards my debts, bringing my total to way over set £1500 target.
I am finishing a year with cleared credit card, extra 800 euros sitting in my Spanish account that pays my mortgage and savings of £1300 to put either towards mortgage or student loan.Mortgage £8472.53
Student Loan £44156.090 -
A week until payday and I have £80 left to live. I am going to football match on friday which is £21 a ticket and then drinks on top. Going to be a long old week living on plain pasta or rice haha
I've spent around £100 again on my credit card. I will pay it off on payday but it's still annoying. Next payday is Xmas present buying payday so going to be skint again for another month.0 -
Well I'm not doing a great job of this challenge due to recent events, paying things off has been less of a priority. Back on the wagon thanks to HSBC redress from them upholding a complaint about my packaged account. So £1130 courtesy of HSBC and some spare change I've left over from the month (sorry, losing track of what I've paid so I'm having to reverse calculate based on what's left to pay). This brings my total to:
£1670.11/£2540
I know I won't manage to get everything paid by Xmas but at least it's looking a lot better than Xmas 2013!!Pay ALL your debt off by Xmas 2014 member #126Debt to pay....
