  • Howdy!
Well this week has been a weird one - I'm on night shifts again so no spending which is obviously good - got a phonecall from HSBC earlier telling me they've cancelled my card in case of fraud though (seriously what?!?) so I'm crossing my fingers and hoping that the new one turns up in time for all the things I've got planned next week to get done while I'm off work (woohoo eye test!)
I'm still planning the new kitchen :D It's not a massive space and it won't be all fancy pants but it needs doing so I'm hoping for a trip to Ikea next week too (if I actually have a card so I can get a train and a bus over there!) so we shall see!
Also I've got a pension through work - been paying into it for 9 years which makes me feel both quite old and very responsible :D It's an NHS one so it WAS a lot better a little while ago but it will only get worse as I keep working (another 40 years :()
  • Hi There

Is it too late to join? I am new to all this.
I have a total of £4397 that I am aiming to clear by christmas.
  • First of all Suzparr - awfully sorry to keep you waiting, Tue is a busy day, so I only checked in on my phone and didn't spot you. You will be number 161!

soopa_de_doopa - not too late at all, you're number 162. Good luck!

Aphidgirl - well done on paying such a huge chunk so far, good luck for the rest - you're number 163.

Heart Bunny welcome! You're number 164 - good luck!

ruby what a shame about the card being cancelled! If you are really stuck you can withdraw cash in a branch if you take ID along with you.

Betsie/Mat_Lock you've taught me something new today! I didn't realise you could have more than one online savings account with the same bank. Obviously I knew I could have an ISA and online saver, but thought that was the limit. That's great news! I currently have a similar set up to you both, but have 4 savings accounts with different providers  it's confusing to say the least.

Thanks Minicooper, I am actually. Person with 2 identities!! Joined on Tuesday as Suzparr, then couldn't log in on Wednesday, contacted an administrator about it but haven't heard back yet, then found out by accident that I also registered in 2008!! Doh! Sorry to mess up your numbers but I have managed to be no 161 & 162! I will try and cancel the Suzparr identity shortly....

Really looking forward to is challenge as I've come so far and now want to squash out the last bit by the end of the year.

I made another saving today, managed to convince DH to drop our cleaner from weekly to fortnightly and the 3 of our kids who have school dinners 3 days a week will all go on full time packed lunches from April. He was absolutely aghast that by doing these 2 small things, £150 a month will be saved, that's £1800 per year!!!

I have a current account with N/wide and was able to set up 2 easy savers account on line. They let you re name them so 1 I have allocated to overpayment of cc (when I know it is safe to do so I will transfer the payment to cc) the other I am going to use for longer term saving
I also have accounts with f*rst d*rect and that one I am using for my SPC (Xmas)!
I have become ever so slightly obsessional with checking my bank accounts and check them all 1st thing in the morning before I get up :)

    Evening :)

Is it too late to join? I am new to all this.
I have a total of £5461.64 that I am aiming to clear by Christmas.

    Breakdown info: (Comments welcome)
    Starting Debt: £7977.60
    Date: 14/06/2013
    Current Amount: 5461.6
    Next month estimated payment: 632.96
    Normal: 132.96
    APR: 12%

    Savings: £3,301.24
    Other: £596.08

so... reason for my debt is because I tried to borrow to help fund visit visa app for my partner to visit UK (was declined because UK Border had doubts on her return :/) anyways i have since been back to see her again in Jan and we do plan to marry later this year. (AUG)

    Complex Part:
Once we get married later this year our application will be heavily dependent on my savings, so I believe that using my savings to cut amount owed would damage our chances. (debt is not included in application but savings is)

any help or advice is greatly appreciated :)

  • 108 here.

Managed to make a small payment today. Now at £4154.10/£10,000. I was paying things off on a daily basis, but I am now saving that money to cover the medical bills. Slightly scared about what it'll all stack up to. I'd like to hope the insurance will sort everything out and it'll all go smoothly, but previous experience tells me that probably won't be the case.
