Yes but if you haven't saved anything for your retirement, you might not be able to retire  I can't imagine still working at 68 so I'm putting money into my pension pot as much as I can. I see it as a free pay rise as my employer adds to the pot.

I really wish I'd started when I was younger ;)

Pay day today for me so I need to jig my accounts and make some payments. :D

that's true, but every £10 could go on a debt repayment! my employer "only" pays in 1% of my salary so it wont be alot.

im just not convinced of the benefits.. plus, how do i know the pension scheme they're using is going to be here still in 40-odd years time??? ever the optimist lol ;)
  • Personally I think you're mental to turn down free money from your employer. Then again, I have the luxury of being in a scheme that costs me 5% of my salary, yet my employer contributes 13%.

You're never too young to start a pension fund. I started paying just 1% into mine at 22. It only cost me £10ish a month. I up it a little bit every time I get a pay rise, and will probably peak at 5-7%. Plus you don't have to use your works pension fund - pick your own and your employer will still have to pay into it!
