  • Ah thanks for letting me know Soopa! I'll take suzparr off number 161, and leave you as number 162!

Hi indebted warrior! You have conveniently come along just in time to fill spot 161! Good luck with saving for the visa bit!

Well done for breaking 30% Kei!

Aphidgirl I wish they'd take the hint and close my accounts sometimes! But no, I've never heard of it happen before.

Betsie, I hope they sort out your ISA - how worrying!

Penny2myName - don't feel like you need to drop out. We're all here to help if you feel a little overwhelmed by it - and we're not going to give a hoot if you don't manage to get debt free by Christmas - it's about what you can manage, and if you're struggling to manage it, people here can give advice.
  • I'm almost certain that I'll still have debts by xmas, as I simply won't earn enough to pay them all off, but this challenge is great for encouraging me just to throw as much money at the debt as possible this year! Then by 2015 at least I'll have a much smaller chunk to deal with and fewer creditors.

Every little helps so keep at it, all those small payments do add up.
    Starting 2016 debt-free :D
    Emergency Fund: £350/£1000
  • Wow, I can't believe it's payday again tomorrow! I magically do have a fair bit of cash left this month, but really need to use it to pay for trips home next month, so no more payments from me!

Looking forward to announcing totals for February tomorrow night too, it's been a busy month!.

Also I was rather shocked in the sauna this evening; I overheard a couple having a bit of an argument. He told her he'd been pricing up the holiday to Prague they'd discussed, it was really expensive (£600 for hotel alone), and he couldn't afford it. She had a big go at him for not thinking she was worth going into debt for! She even told him off because the sites he'd been using to price the holiday must have been 'cheap sites'. One of those moments where I'm glad I found sites like this to keep me grounded.
  • Happy Payday to anyone being blessed from the wage fairy today!! Paid off my overdraft this morning-only the CC left and a nice round number on it! Plus I've just got past 20% so really pleased with that :D I've also put a fair bit away towards our holiday - am incredibly lucky this year as for my Mum's 60th she is treating the family to flights to the Dominican Republic so just need to save money for the hotel (14 nights all inclusive) - the holiday is only a couple of weeks after my 30th and it's mine & DH's 2nd wedding anniversary while we're there so triple mega yay but expensive during my "cheap" year!!

WOW is all I can say to that! The only reason to get into debt for someone like that would be to pay for a quick divorce if you were married to them :rotfl:

  • Minicooper re the ISA, I had transfered from 1 year to the next as the interest rate was better. I specifically asked for it to be transferred which the cashier did and closed the old account.
But apparently the new account wasn't able to accept transfers in, so Head Office withdrew it. No communication at all they just took it out as a cash withdrawal......and now apparently the money is in "the ether" and I am waiting up to 5 days for them to set up another ISA or whatever. I am not very happy and will be visiting the branch again when they've traced the money.
This is a special fund to me as my Mum gave each of us some money when a relative died and I have promised myself a campervan which I am actively looking for.
Anyway, lets see what they come up with....!
On a brighter note I survived the month after paying the last of my cc with interest so that has fired me up to clear all the others. They are all on 0% and I knew they were being paid slowly, but this way I will pay them all off before the end of their times and not have to shuffle anymore.
Does anyone know if it is then a better idea to close the accounts down or keep them?
