I was hoping to do some charity gifts this year (shoe boxes, toy donations) but apart from a Toy Stand in our local Tesco that was up for two days I've seen and heard nothing :( The local radio station normally does one but all I can find on google is last years, and it was closed by the 10th of November.

Any advice on finding one or am I too late?

Have a look on Facebook my area are asking for them for the homeless you have the choice of male/female/dog.

Need lots of help for a quite frugal christmas this year as its just the two of us and need to make it extra special as our first living together and our first as engaged and to add to the mix the worst time of the year for my fiance! Add that with a few financial struggles so will make this the most challenging but hopefully the most rewarding one yet! :)
V simple - stay in bed from Christmas Eve to 27th Dec. Nice and warm, you'll be in a good company so you won't be bored with Christmas TV :D

Evening everyone, hope everyone has had a good weekend?

FREESPIRIT - that sounds gorgeous, I'm doing smarties cookies for OH's little sister but my mum would love those! If I asked especially nicely would I be able to steal the recipe from you at all? Or you could point me in the direction of something similar?

CHRISSYG - I love things like that and have been looking for similar items that I can use to do that sort of thing in our flat. I've found loads of great ideas for stuff like that on pinterest (my second home lol)

MSGIGGLEWICK - those look brilliant, I love the glass with skull on it!

All the hampers that have been posted look absolutely fab! I'm hoping to out some of the things I've done so far once I'm allowed!

Went to do a little shopping today, was unimpressed with most of the Christmas stock in most of the shops I went into, aside from b & m where I managed to get some gorgeous sparkly cone trees. Will post pics once I am able and figure out how to do it. Now just need to find somewhere to put them for christmas!

Had been hoping to find some Christmas beads that I was wanting to use to make glam tie backs for my curtains in the bedroom, but didn't manage to find any! Will have to try again after Halloween I think, as the shops seem to have gone all out this year! I do enjoy Halloween myself but OH and I have moved into an upstairs flat with rear access so don't think we'll be getting any trick or treaters this year, which is a shame as I do like to hand sweets out and see the kids all dressed up!

Had also tried to find some lovely picture frames that I saw in the pound shop a few weeks ago, but when I got there sadly there weren't any left. Had wanted them to match some that I already have in the bedroom, but back to the drawing board on that one I think!

    Jo xx
I'm usually using a phone, so excuse my spelling please!

Agreed, but if there's no shame in going into Primark accompanied there should be no shame in buying. I would recommend their thermal leggings btw, great for retaining warmth under jeans. I bought a stack at a silly price earlier this year (£2 each I think) and shared with every female I know that feels the cold.

I also went a bit mad earlier in the week and bought a Christmas tree, had had my eye on it for a while and the price dropped to the princely sum of £20. It will last me for years :)
Oh it has nothing to do with shame at all. I don't give a fiddley dee what people think about Primark. I like it and that's all I care about. What I meant was, if the person whom you are buying it for is standing beside/with you just buy it! I'm also known to have managed to hide things in my basket when the children see something they like :rotfl:

  • Hellooooo sorry I have been so absent! Will try and read back tomorrow.

I have been desperately trying to sort my house out, Ive rearranged my bathroom, kitchen and living room (which looks like a bombsite now!) We had a mouse invasion which started it off, I'd been meaning to sort the kitchen for ages and well mouse droppings are a great incentive:eek: the things had been everywhere and made a nest behind my free standing shelves! I must confess I was so exhausted I started on the chocolate panettone... But its not as nice as I remembered so wont bother replacing it.
Hopefully the mice have been banished and with no tasty morsels or places to hide hopefully thats for good. The whotsits had eaten into the dog food and the pasta! Honestly!

I think it'd be nice to start a new tradition together.

    *Baking/gingerbread house making Christmas Eve
    *Attending midnight mass/Carol service/local panto
    *New PJs Christmas Eve
*A new, or new to you, ornament that has meaning to you both for the tree/house
*A walk in the park Christmas morning
    *A Special breakfast in bed

I'm sure others can think of some better frugal ones! One tradition I'm hoping to change this year is leaving all the wrapping until Christmas Eve! :naughty: :rotfl:
  • weeclick welcome back what an exciting year for you congratulations maybe you could decorate the tree watch a christmas film. Maybe do a mini xmas eve hamper get some cheap new pjs new decoration dvd hot chocolate maybe.
chrissyg that looks fabulous and bet it would be easy to do.
