Mandco, Mum, DH and I have the flu vaccine every year and never had a problem however none of us are in the 2-4 age range lol.

Welcome all newbies and returners - things are really ramping up for the big day (or in my case 'month').

Huge congrats Feisty on your debt free status - long may it continue.

Mrs I - hope you get the Tesco card sorted out quickly. These sort of things are so annoying.

I ordered DH's father's war record about a month ago as was going to include it in a folder with info about the Essex Regiment in WW2 and some other bits about his father's war experience. Unfortunately it hasn't arrived yet (cheque hadn't been cashed when I checked last week) and his birthday is on Thursday so I'm now thinking I'll do that for Christmas but it's left me completely stuck for what to get for his birthday - I've given all my ideas to other people thinking I'd got it covered :(
It's the most wonderful timeof the year :
  • Ive just downloaded an app - brilliant! Thanks for that and I dunno why I didnt think to look to be hones!

The dinner money is never enough, rather than send money for the cashless catering (because it always uses what you put in before the daily allowance) I buy a box of juice drinks and cereal bars or snaky things that are on offer and they go in every day. Works out pence per day rather the £5 a week.

    Im cold :(
    Life happens, live it well.

does anyone get the influenza flu vaccine? had a letter for taz today as they are offering a nasal version for 2-4yr olds this yr not sure wether its a good idea to have it done or not as I know quite a few people who had bad experience with the jab last yr.

I also don't know anyone in the 2-4 category that have had it.

Usually the people that get "ill from it" don't realise that to get ill from you you already have the illness, the flu jab doesn't make you ill, but it kind of "distracts" your immune system so that the other thing your body was fighting off that you didn't even know you had comes out full force. Most common is people getting colds, blaming the flu jab, but in actual fact they already had that cold anyway they just didn't know it yet.

I know a lot of people who have had the jab, I know nothing of the nasal version, but both people who have had it because of their jobs (doctors, nurses, carers), and those because of medical conditions, and none have any side effects. My mum and uncle are planning on trying to get it this year as carers for my grandma and grandad. Think my uncle actually had it last year as he actually lives with Grandad, but mum didn't even think about it until quite late on when they had used their supply up at the doctors by me.
If anyone offered me one I'd jump at the chance, not last Christmas but the one before when my dad was still working in the factory, everyone in his office (30people) went off ill for a week at a time, they all caught it off each other, dad was the only one didn't get it, we put that down to the flu jab.

I found a film on youtube this afternoon, called Christmas in Conway 2014, it's on chanelVEVO entertainment. I was expecting it to be pants but I'm quite enjoying it :)

  • mandco I've been getting the Flu Jab every year for as long as I can remember as I have asthma, DD got the nasal spray last year. She didn't like getting the nasal one as it in her words "Made her nose feel funny and itchy":rotfl: We weren't given the option though as I was expecting her to get the injection as per usual so we were both surprised when she got the spray:rotfl:

I work in a school and all the children, medical condition or not - are being offered the flu vaccination this year. Last year it was only one class in the upper school, seems it's been rolled out for every child now.
Not sure if the staff are being offered that though......... will have to ask about that actually as it would save me a lot of bother trying to get an appointment for mine for after work.

  • IrishRose I was in the Edinburgh branch of John Lewis on Thursday last week and didn't notice any Christmas things but I only went round a small section of the store. They had a 'going to university' bit so it is possible that will become the Christmas section in a few weeks time.
