Daily thread for Sunday 24th June 2007

Options
Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Sunday 24th June 2007.This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything OS and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an OS natter. The more the merrier!

When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem, we’re a laid back bunch here so you won’t hear any complaints. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.

Morning all,

I'm wide awake and I know I'm really going to regret it in the morning! I heard a bang outside…it sounded like the garage door…I went out to investigate and can't see anything unusual, but now I can't get back to sleep.

taplady, congratulations on your success at the cake sale!
donnygal, I hope you've had a better nights sleep tonight.
Churchmouse, I hope it's not too long before you get your broadband up and running.
ivyleaf, thank you for your reassuring post yesterday. We're off to Southern Brittany…..we've been there a couple of times before and it's a lovely area with gorgeous beaches and plenty to do if the weather's not so good. The campsite is ideal for teens and tots (we've got both) and the mobile homes are great, so there’ll be plenty of room for Haribo and her brood to join us for a few days! I still feel a bit funny about leaving dd behind, but as dh pointed out, where does it end…do we just stop having holidays because the children are growing up?
meanmarie, Happy Birthday! I hope you have a lovely day! :bdaycake:

It's also my dd’s 17th birthday today. I don't feel old enough to be the mother of a 17 year old! Years ago, when she was small we read the Topsy and Tim books (not sure if they're still around), and the mum made birthday pancakes…since then it's become a family tradition here that we always have 'birthday pancakes' for breakfast on birthdays, so that's what I'll be doing later this morning.....standing half asleep, in front of a frying pan tossing pancakes! :D

Another tradition is that we give the children their main present and then do 'hide around the house presents' (silly stocking filler type gifts that they have to go and find). You'd think that by the age of 17 dd would stop expecting it…..no chance! So I was up late last night wrapping and hiding books, chocolate oranges, mascara's etc! It's my own fault really for starting these things in the first place!

Plans for today are to clean and tidy the kitchen, go and see my Dad and stepmum at some stage, make a start on the holiday ironing and buy some more bits and pieces we still need.

Then this evening, we're all going out for dinner at to celebrate dd's birthday….it's been a while since we've all been out together so that will be nice and I'm looking forward to not having to cook or wash up afterwards. :j

Sorry for waffling on so much…

I hope you all have a great Sunday.

Pink

Back from our holiday in Florida and still wavering in and out of different time zones :o

Probably shouldn't have gone to bed this morning when we got in as when I did go to bed last night I couldn't sleep and still can't plus the fact its so blinking cold!

For all the Seaworld fans we had a great two days there and were glad to see they have brought back Shamu Rocks for the night time show although when you get soaked the water does seem even colder.

Had a couple of nights at Animal Kingdom Lodge, wonderful to walk out on to the balcony in the morning and watch the giraffes in particular under your window.

Stocked up on Crocs and daughter had a wonderful time at the Malls as well as the roller coasters but our favourite is still Epcot and this time we did a Segway Tour of the World at 8.30 am when the park is still closed and it was great to wheel around the empty park seeing lots of things you miss when its busy with people.

Heading for Tesco shortly to food shop for some mince and tatties for tea, the Scots will understand my compulsion to have some "real" food when you get home from holidays! I'll probably bung it in the slow cooker and head for bed :)

Good morning Pink, E’lass, Amie and everyone reading this

What a beautiful morning! I’ve just watched the sun rise under an old stone bridge; the canal looked like liquid gold. Next time I’ll grab the camera to get a photo if I can.

Well the coots are all grown up and now there is only Feisty still at home. She flew properly for the first time yesterday so I think she will be gone by the time I get back from a few days away. But…

Feisty now has 4 baby brothers and sisters (plus one not yet hatched)! They hatched on Friday and are looking very cute and fluffy. Dad is doing his normal Jet ski nutter stuff and I’ve just been in gales of laughter watching him try to chase the carp out of “his” patch of water. I think he’s taking this territorial stuff a tad too far! :rotfl:

Anyone out there know anything about carp? Do they protect their fry? This lot appear to be, but I’d always thought fish left their young to get on with it?

Well I’ve got most of my undies in the WM just now on a white restoring wash… dread to think what is going to come out. I bet I need to do a trip to M&S later.

I’ve not had a chance to post or read lately so am missing you all and hope everyone is well. Now I have some time off I might be able to get caught up a bit. I've not been doing much OS apart from the normal either, Oh! Except that my salads grew. :D

Hugs to all who would like one.
My first reply was witty and intellectual but I lost it so you got this one instead :D

Good Morning! Happy Birthday to Meanmarie and to Pink's DD. Hope E'lass gets over jet lag very soon!

My DD was 13 this week and we too had birthday pancakes! She chose Fray Bentos Steak and Kidney pie with Aunt Bessies Chips for her Birthday Dinner!! Something tells me she is fed up with a million meals with pasta and cooking from scratch!! Still, it was her birthday so her choice - can't argue with that really can I?!

Up early today as DS is off to a ski race. Normally we would take him ourselves but I am teaching today and DH is working overtime so DD is being taken by one of the other ski families. They will be picking him up any time now......

This evening I will be putting together my meal plan for the week - our lodger (a foreign student) goes home for the summer at the end of this coming week, and when he goes so does the income he provides, so I feel a storecupboard challenge or two coming my way.....:D

Hope everyone has a good day, and that you are able to dodge the showers!

edinburgh lass sounds like you had a really good time
yesterday was a busy day so I didn't do much after I got home so the plans for today are sort the washing machine out to see if I can find out where the rattle is coming from I'm a little worried about it being terminal as the machine is 8 years old
then I have washing to do cakes to make rolls to make and the house needs going over from top to bottom so the children have lists to do no free play time until the jobs are done
    have a good day

    Morning.

Suffering a little today. We had a big BBQ last night with about 13 friends. Lots of food and wine... lots left over too. Everyone bought a bottle or 2, so I think I have more than I started with....
My fridge broke down yesterday which did not help matters. This morning it seems OK..... Wierd, I think a sensor (thermistor) is faulty or it's got iced up somewhere.. Not sure what to do... I fancy a new one, but I don't need the expense.
Raining again today. Always seems to be doing that...
Church later, then I was going to look at fridges at Comet.
Shant do much else today... too tired.

    Cheers

    Hi everyone,
Haven't been here for a while. Hope everyone is well.
Weather been really unsettled here, warm and then rain, warm then rain, now looks ok. Need to do some houseworky things today like washing and get the Vax out. Did a big shop yesterday and wrote up a meal plan. A roast dinner today, haven't done one for ages. Have a great Sunday.

    Morning Everyone
I thought I was early, but I will be 7th as I start typing this.
Thanks P-W I have had a better night, though DH hasn't complaining of tooth-ache. Luckily even if I sleep short, I sleep heavy, he's still sock on so leaving him so I hear less of the male moaning:eek:
Just went advanced for the icons, and already 9th so we all seem to up and about early.
I did manage a load of the sorting/scanning of the paper, but still more to go, and this is only doing the "new" stuff, extra being caused by talking advantage of Martin's "offers" which will suit out new life style.
Going to try to fit in a freezer check today, as we are planning to have most of August away, and then go to Spain for a couple of months in October, want to try to use up what we have in the garage freezer and then maybe switch it off for a while. I may be coming for inspiration. :rotfl: :rotfl: with my extensive culinary tallents:o

Birthday wishes meanmarie and miss pink

P-W Yes it is hard as they grow, but I always remember what my Mum said to me was you had to let your kids go, for them to come back to you. Colleagues often say to me when did you last see your DS, which could have been not for a while or only briefly, but we communicate via phone, text, or more often Messenger most days. I find out more about his life via Messenger than face to face, maybe he sees me as a mate on their and can be more relaxed, don't know or care really as long it keeps the communication lines open. Life has change a lot between my adolescence and his and it is hard sometimes to "say nothing" and just smile, when you think - fool!

    (((hugs))))) all round
Have a good Sunday - don't work too hard Amie - did they help?

    Morning everyone

Happy Birthday MeanMarie, and happy birthday to Ms Pink too.

It has stopped raining for nearly 10 minutes here, woohoo, there are even some dry patches on the road. This rain really is a pain in the butt!

Racy, lovely to hear from you. I'd been wondering about the coots - can't believe that the first brood has all but grown up and gone away and that there is a new second brood already!

Churchmouse, I am permanently on dial-up - AussieLass told me that she thinks my connection is quite fast though it can sometimes drive me crazy if there are lots of pictures etc. Yours sounds soooo sloooooooowwwwwwww - hope you get your broadband back v.soon.

There is absolutely nothing new in my life at all, so let me just wish you a fabulous Sunday.

    Bye!

Hello Possums :D I'm back in Oz

Well we had quite an ordeal (as you do) ;). Instead of flying to Heathrow like I thought I'd booked, a gremlin  booked for London City. Saw the mistake a tad too late as we were about to board. The Edi flight was delayed and after a mad flight across London to get to Heathrow we just made it on our plane. Baggage was closed, so it went on a later flight which was no trouble as we stayed in Singapore and raced to the boarding area. We were last on. :o I had a raging migraine by that time.

It was hot as hell in Singapore and when we fronted up to the Motel it was 9.30am and they wouldn't let us in until 3pm. So crawled to the nearest shopping centre to sit in the cool to while away the hours. The second day improved though.

Arrived here last night. It was raining. Today I've done nothing. Haven't even unpacked. Just vegging out and chatting to DD and had a little sleep this arv. I'm so tired all the time and can't wait to get back into a better sleep pattern. Hope you all have a great day & ((((hugs)))) to all.

Happy Birthday Ms Pink & Meanmarie
Don't worry about the world coming to an end today. It's already tomorrow in Australia. ;)
