If you were to trust him with this sort of thing again, one of the conditions should be don't leave getting your Christmas shopping until Christmas Eve! If he only gets paid Xmas Eve, then present buying should be coming out of his November pay-packet!

Perhaps, but not usually to that degree. Suggesting an idea for a gift (if asked), maybe. But deciding that he will buy her a particular present, and then browbeating him into submission when he fails to, is more than many friends would do.

You sound like a good friend with the best of intentions, but if he can't be bothered to show that he cares, this will soon be apparent to her - if it isnt already - unless you intend to do the same every birthday/christmas/anniversary etc.

Perhaps she needs a few more christmases of feeling unappreciated and undervalued to make her wake up and smell the coffee.

I've never heard of it before. In this case it seems a good job that you have though, as the guy sounds a right !!!!, and doesn't seem like he cares for your friend at all. At least your friend will get at least one nice present thanks to you. Just hope she doesn't find out the truth!

To be fair to him,and shockingly,he wouldn't let me help pay AND he bought her another present too!!!!

Maybe he was just being a bit clueless this time?

  • shegirl you sound like a lovely friend - don't live in the south east do you? I could do with such a caring & thoughtful person in my life!

Sorry but I agree maybe you should stop getting involved. In a way you are enabling their relationship. Often people have to hit rock bottom before they make changes but if someone is always there couching them from the consequences it can take a lot longer. Maybe she does need to be hurt to get rid of this thoughtless & uncaring person. She can do better and you will be there to offer her love when she comes to this realisation - along with sex & the city, ice cream & gloria Gaynor x

I don't know the ins and outs but it is possible for him to be a nice bloke and completely clueless about shopping and gifts. My mum can be bad with presents for no real reason, certainly not what you could describe as a lack of love. You have been a great friend and should be feeling very happy that you did the right thing.

Maybe he's one of those blokes who hates to be told what to do ....and maybe just maybe he felt you had got a bit too involved and was really having a strop about that rather than never intending to buy it.....Just a thought' Men are funny creatures ;)
