Ive never had to queue for 40 minutes in a shop before, id have walked out if longer than 10 minutesfluffnutter wrote: »I just don't believe this.
neither do I, I expect it to be a slight exageration.0 -
On Christmas Eve you would expect to queue longer, I did when I went in on the 23rd and I expect it would have been much busier on Christmas Eve, I stayed away as I knew it would be worse than it was on the 23rd and that would be bad enough.0

The checkout person was having a right good old natter with the customer (knew each other) and going really slow as a result. The next checkout was moving faster.Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0

Our Asda is always packed as it's in a large shopping centre. I avoid it like the plague! They have around 20 self checkouts which you can't take a trolley through and the staff respond very slowly to issues.
Our local Aldi ones have queues but they always open extra till really quickly and they clear in no time at all. I also like the fact that all your shopping is one the belt before they start scanning.
We have had a new Tesco open by us, I visited once and it took them 15 minutes to sort out a mis-price on some cookies. Haven't been back.0 -
Theres always more than one checkout open in my local aldi, never had an issue in there with queues, even at christmas.0

Poor old Asda staff cant win, they are paid minimum wage, not fully trained in everything, expected to work all hours at the drop of a hat, interact with customers who can be in foul moods because they have come on a really busy day and they then get all sorts of carp like this thread.
Any supermarket will be very busy around Xmas, its what happens - people leave shopping till too late and then expect an easy time when the whole borough turns up for their xmas shop.
I have never waited more than 10 minutes in a que so do think that the quoted 40 is an exaggeration too, however can believe 30-40 to get out of the car park - yet again this is not the fault of the staff but just the consequences of too many people shopping on the same day.
I know one thing for certain, I would never want to work in a supermarket.
If I did I am sure I would be fired quite quickly for either telling a customer to get real or a manager for being a useless caber chucker. (BTW - they all have to follow the rules thrown down by head office).0 -

With regard to queues, it's down to the management to staff the supermarket properly, I don't think anyone would blame the checkout staff for that.
Some people have no choice but to leave their shopping until late, they have jobs too. Plus fresh produce can only be bought at the last minute.
Yes shoppers should expect supermarkets to be busy but so should staff.0 -
Not at Asda and not this year, but Tesco and last year, we queued for 40 minutes. Oddly I DID time it as I was curious. All the queues were to the end of the aisles and the self service was a nightmare. Getting out of the car park was the easy part!Spam Reporter Extraordinaire
