40 minutes in queue at Asda?
    I think not

That's just what I was thinking. 40 mins in one queue and a further 30 mins in another!

I know it can seem like ages when you are in a queue but for it to be that length of time the queue would have to be half way down an aisle and not moving forward at all.

I doubt the recipient of the email at Asda will take it seriously.
  • The yellow supermarket is the worsed. They have the same amount of checkout staff on the busiest day of the Christmas period as they do on a quiet wet August afternoon.

But that still doesn't top Aldi/Lidl who only ever have one checkout open. They may occasionally open a second one when the queue gets down the second alise. But revert back to one again once it is down to one alise again.
  • I think asdas one of the better ones. They employ someone who's job it is to walk about with a big pointy finger showing you tills that have no/low queues.

As far as the rest of them go, I get in early and get out again before the queues start (they cant sell alcohol till 10am, so if you're at the checkout a bit before 10, it's normally not too bad)

I haven't had to join a queue even this morning in Tesco, I wouldn't queue for 10 minutes never mind 40...

  • We went to asda at 3 pm yesterday and I was pleasantly surprised at how calm everything was. No whole turkeys left but I got a large breast joint which will take up less room in the oven. All of the tills were staffed and there was a team of staff throughout the site keeping the shelves filed and reducing baked and chilled stuff so we got a few bargains as well :D
We queued for less than 5 mins and the chap serving apologized for our wait while we complimented him on how well everything was running!

I take it you main Xmas present last year was a book about how to exaggerate?

I have to say, it's not unlikely. I live near to the Asda Wal-Mart supercentre in Minworth. Last year I did my shopping at about 2am on Christmas Eve and despite around 70% of the tills being manned, I still had to queue for 45 minutes. The queues were down the aisles and it was manic.
I did my shopping at a smaller Asda this year and my wait was only about 15 minutes, mostly due to the family in front faffing about.
My next door neighbour, however, went to the Minworth store when they opened at 00:01 on Monday morning and said it was horrendous, with queues everywhere and people shouting because all their frozen stuff was melting in the 30-40 minute queues.

Went to my local Asda on the 23rd
took people longer to get in/out of the car park that it ever did in the checkouts
However if a supermarket has all tills staffed. What can they do beyond that?

    No, first hand experience.
