    Hi all

Off to the good ol US of A in a few weeks, 3 days in NY and2 weeks in Vegas staying (mostly) with my best friends Mom in North Vegas.

I'm going to need a pool (and a cocktail of course) ... are any of the big hotel pools open to the public ... and if so what are the most reasonable - don't mind paying a few bucks, but don't want to be ripped off.

    Thanks in advance!

Will you have a car available? If so, how about a trip to southwest Utah including Zion and Bryce Canyon national parks?

I guess most of the motels in St George have pools. Here's one suggestion at the budget level (but perfectly acceptable IMHO) and the town has plenty of more expensive alternatives if you prefer:

Route from Las Vegas to Zion:

Video of the most extreme hike in Zion (but the early part up the first fabulous view is totally safe, and the park has a variety of much easier hikes):

Are any hotel pools open to the public?
While the majority of Las Vegas pools are for hotel guests only, there's a definite trend towards admitting non-guests, often with no charge during the off-season and for a fee during the busy summer months. If a pool hosts events like parties and concerts, these are almost always open to the public (again, for a fee -- usually free to hotel guests). For the full line-up of open pools and poolside events, check out our Cool Pools section, which is constantly updated. Something else to note is that a number of the hotel spas have a swimming pool that's open to anyone who's using the treatment facilities, so that's another option worth bearing in mind.

  • ive just come back from LV and although we had no plans for shows etc, we showed up the the ticket booth at Fashion Mall (Tix4tonight) and they had stuck up temp posters advertising Celine Dion tickets for that very night.
Normally for Celine you have to prebook or they release offers rarely, so we snapped them up. $98 for back showfloor seats. We hotfooted it to Cesears ticket booth, had a nice banter with the sales lady and she gave us front row back tier show floor seats. There are two sections on the showfloor (front and back), then 1st level and 2nd level. So we had great seats. These seats are normally $200 and front tier floor seat tix are $298. Worked out at £120 for our 2 tickets.
So worth taking a mosey to the ticket booth and chancing it on a weekday for Celine tickets if you want some.
Oh, and if you have time. The Neon Boneyard where old LV light signs are archived and displayed was a great outdoor exhibition about the history of LV. Book online and go at dusk or evening for the bet time.
Lovin Boots and other bargainous places!

Check this section out. http://www.lasvegasadvisor.com/poolfaqs.cfm#2 It was from last year but is a good indicator of the pools open to the public.
Especially have a look at the ones that have gaming poolside. By law if they do and you say you intend to play they must let you in free. So you blow a bit of time at b/j, get a couple of comped drinks and spend the rest of the day chilling by the pool. I can highly recommend the Encore pool.
BTW. It is 3:30pm and 78 degrees by the pool here at the Platinum. It is mad crazy busy in town this weekend, NASCAR, and a bunch of conventions. got to MAG at 5:30 last night and already a 2 hour wait for the patio!!
The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.

jonesMUFCforever - have a fabulous trip and I second the hope for a trip report when you're back!

stoneman - good to see you, I was just thinking we should send out the St Bernards as it seems like ages. 2 hour wait at 5pm for MAG patio is nuts...hopefully things will settle down after the weekend.
Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?
