I think we've decided to forget about LA this trip and do California in a separate holiday in the future. I'd rather do vegas, Death Valley and Grand Canyon properly and LA, the coast And San Fran at a later date.

So... Is it better to have a better room in a good hotel, or a basic room in a better hotel. Decisions decisions.
We nearly booked a suite at stratosphere for first two days but changed to standard room at Four Seasons. The room and service though out the hotel was fab.

    Don't pre book a limo.

Walk right outside and get one direct to hotel for $65. Then ask for a strip run and you can negotiate the add on price.

Did just that myself in Nov. 6 of us.

    Approx $90 - $15 each. So £10 for a lovely VIP experience.

Thanks for all your information, very much appreciated.

If anyone can shred some light on Thomas Cook long haul flights that would also be appreciated.

Thomas Cook - does anyone know if drinks are available for free or the cost on board their flights to Vegas? Is an upgrade worth the money, and what cost, if anyone has done it before.

Two cabins which roughly equate to economy and premium economy. You pay extra for luggage and to book your seat. No meals or snacks included, though there is a deal at the moment where you get a free meal if you add luggage and seat booking.

You can download their in flight food offering from this page:

I think it depends where you're comparing. As an example, I would rather have a basic room mid-strip than the best suite south strip as I prefer the location and it saves a lot of walking or taxi fares.

It also depends how much time you spend in the room. If you're a typical Vegas visitor who only uses it as a place to crash, I'd just go with the cheapest acceptable standard room.

DH and I are probably not typical, but we use our Vegas trip as a big chance to unwind. So we budget quite a bit on the room as we do spend a good chunk of time in it. Last time was a fountain view suite at the Vdara, lovely and quiet.

I remember commenting one trip that our fountain view Go room at the Flamingo was wasted on me as I was out before it got dark and the fountains were turned off for the night by the time I got back.

Not sure if I can name names on here, but I booked a round trip with presidential limos to/from airport to Flamingo. They took me from the bottom of the strip, past the flamingo and up past the mirage, then round the back of the hotels back to the flamingo. Might be worth giving them a look, as i'm sure if you emailed them, or any other vegas limo company they would be happy to drive off strip to the wynn, and then give you a tour down it.

I've also got Presidential Limo's booked for my trip in Aug. Also going to Flamingo's. Excited to hear you get enough time to do a lap of the Strip!!
Currently saving and planning for the holiday of a lifetime to Vegas in summer 2014!

5 Nights @ Flamingo -> 1 Night @ Lake Mead -> 2 Nights @ The Grand Canyon -> 3 Nights @ The Mirage -> And Finally... 1 Night @ The Salone Fountain View Suite, Bellagio

    Decent reward available on MyVegas......

only 1500 for a room at the Mirage for $42 (plus resort fee) - only certain dates but worked well for our trip - one night booked on my account and one on the wife's.

Within Mlife account the best rate I could see was $90 plus resort fee so better than half price for just 1500 'gold'.

Some light Vegas amusement and playing spot-the-location, the film "Last Vegas" is worth watching. Centred on the Aria Hotel, but lots of views of the strip etc.

Thanks to secretmachines, the thread looks slicker every year!!

Jus an FYI - I had a notification of change of flight times a few weeks ago for our May Thomas Cook flight from Manchester. Now out at 09:15 and back at 13:55. This makes the long day on the outward journey even longer....
