It's a Youtube channel that does a few different series of videos, one of them being educational, and they just did an episode on circadian rhythms, so your wording caught my eye!
Hope your cooker gets fixed easily

Hey pavlovs - hope the oven is easily repairable but then as you say it would be much better to have the 2 smaller ovens instead so money saving in the long run x
Well done on all the cleaning - i am ignoring mine until after my assignment

funny old evening.
Stepdad came over to help pull cooker apart and see if we can figure out what's gone wrong. Apologies for the lack of technical terms, but the plastic 'plugs' on the wires for attaching the cooker fan element to the rest of the oven were burnt completely black and they crumbled when we tried to remove them (which would explain the electrical burning smell). Can't tell from simply looking at it if the element itself is also knackered, but it's a fairly logical guess given the state of the attached wiring.
I also accidentally electrocuted poor SD  and in the process we may have discovered a problem with our wiring (which was supposedly re-done to current industry standards by the builder who renovated our house prior to purchase). I turned off my SC at the wall which caused a big spark, and SD who was in contact with cooker got a bit of a jolt  he thankfully is fine and saw the funny side. But the socket that the SC was plugged in to should not apparently be on same circuit as the oven. It appears that they have 'spurred' from the electrical socket, to the power switch for the cooker, to the socket that the cooker plugs in to (as opposed to cooker socket (and switch at a push) going straight back to circuit board). On the bright side, least we know our RCD works as it tripped at the necessary moment
SD has taken the cooker details and is going to ask at the local kitchen parts shop to see what they advise. Hope it is something we can DIY, as baumatic customer service has been sold to candy/hotpoint. Had a dire experience with their 'customer service' last year so would like to avoid them at all costs.
a cursory browse online shows the elements retail for anywhere between £40 - £125. Not sure yet whether we'll need to replace some wiring as well. As cooker is 90cm where as 100cm seems to be a more common industry standard, cost of replacement oven starts at £600 for single oven like we currently have, rising to £1000+ for the dual oven style I would prefer. DIY route seeming more appealing by the minute :D
After all that a bit of retail therapy was on the cards. Have shared an approved foods order with my mum to reduce postage costs. Mostly couscous, noodles and dried pulses. Got a few cake mixes for quick and easy lunchbox fodder too.
Going to have a soak in the bath and relax with my book on the nook (currently reading the book thief). Will have to make sure not to drop it, already had one electrocution too many tonight :rotfl:know thyselfNid wy'n gofyn bywyd moethus...0 -
Given that the wiring appears defective, can you pursue the builder? I'd be wary of fixing things if there's an underlying problem.Mortgage at 01.01.14 £119,481.83:eek: today £0 Emergency fund £5.5/5.5k & £200/200 cash.:jWeight 24/02/19 14st 7lb now 12st determined to stop defining myself by my mistakes. It was a private builder who renovated old house so no 10 year guarantee like you get with new builds. Fairly certain caveat emptor would be the case here, especially as we've been in house almost 3.5 years.know thyselfNid wy'n gofyn bywyd moethus...0

oven fixed thanks to the help of my very clever FIL. New part cost £20odd in the end, so much cheaper than a new oven
In the process, we also discovered that the oven is essentially a big mecchano set for grown ups, so should it break again we'll have no problem stripping it down into its component parts to try and fix things.
Mortgage statement arrived. Will sit and digest it properly at the weekend, but initial figures look good. Mortgage now in advance by over £6k, and where they've recalculated our monthly payment, our built in OP is now £136.63 a month, so that's £1639.56 OPed over the course of a year before we even begin :j
Very tired. busy busy busy in work and a colleague is facing a horribly unfair situation which has caused me quite a moral quandry. TGIF tomorrow.know thyselfNid wy'n gofyn bywyd moethus...0 -

we also discovered that the oven is [STRIKE]essentially a big mecchano set for grown ups[/STRIKE] encrusted with bits of cheese and old casserole. There, fixed that for you, or is it just my oven? :rotfl:
Hopefully you can get a reasonably early night, I often find that real life concerns (such as your friend's quandary), can physically tire you out.0
