Well it was back to Sainsburys for rest of main shop today. As I work in all 4 main supermarkets during the week,I get to know best bargains and buy various items from them all.I have to say though with all the BOGOFF offers that the bigger supermarkets offer ,I think its a bit of a myth that you save loads in Aldi, when you balance out the cost of a full shop.0

No, that's not my problem - it's just your opinion and no more valid than mine, which at least has the merit of some experience.0 -
We have never been impressed by Aldi and consider the current praise for the chain to be nothing more than inverted snobbery. They, along with the rest of the discount supermarkets were substantially exposed by the horsemeat scandal earlier this year. We much prefer to patronise Morrisons, who source all of their meat from UK farms.0

My local Aldi sources beef locally (cannot speak for other meats have not looked), in fact it is from a farm less than 10 miles from me, my late father and some of my siblings who really do know about such things had/have a high regard for the farmer's animal husbandry and the quality of the animals they raise. The minced and casserole beef is excellent.
As with all suppliers, one has to try and see what suits. We shop at Aldi approx. every 2 -3 weeks and stock up with muesli, dish washer tablets, quilted loo roll, washing up liquid, some biscuits, super 6 fruit and veg, bleach, honey, and of course extremely scrummy chocolate also parmesan cheese and cheap and cheerful soft cheese for pasta sauces (a lot less e-numbers than jars of sauces).
I found a thread on MSE which was very helpful, where posters noted their Aldi loves and hates, this saved me a lot of wasted money. By saving money on the basics I can afford to buy locally produced milk, cream, free range eggs, lamb, pork and poultry from butchers and farm shop. The best thing about the future is that it comes one day at a time. if incorrect labelling on shelves is an issue then i wouldnt bother going into Tesco any time soon! ridiculous! much worse than ive ever seen in any other chain. the one we went into this morning had an entire shelf of christmas pate (various types) and none had a price on them.Car Boot Queen!!
Clothes Golden Rule: Never pay full price unless it is an utter bargain in the first place!
Sales, boots, charity shops, ebay- why would anyone ever pay full price for anything??!0 -

I don't have an Aldi or Lidl within a convenient distance so can't comment on their products. However I can say that the Aldi Christmas adverts have been infinitely less irritating than the Lidl ones. That horrible sickly voice singing "All these Lidl things .." at the end of each one ... urgh!0

1980's we had a Lidls very near our Spanish home and we never ever even went in it because it seemed the last place to shop really... but now so much has changed in recent years. Our store is really well set out so neat and tidy very impressed and we shop at least weekly for many items likewise do an Aldi shop for some items and Tescos and Asda also. I cannot see how anybody can think the quality is under par.0

It's a really basic range of food and other products used by local shops (newsagents, Spar etc).
And it's generally very poor.
I presume the comment saying that it is better than Lidl's output was meant to be a joke.
Either that or an extremely uninformed view. Most things from Lidl are generally excellent, much better than any Happy Shopper stuff.
I would imagine my local corner shop did used to sell happy shopper stuff, but my local shop is now a Nisa and their value range is called bobby's, I would imagine its much the same.
We've always had a spar around here, but its extortionate so I very rarely go in it.0 -
I much prefer aldi to tesco, even with bogof offers. Tesco is just far far too expensive for me. I shop in aldi and theres a home bargains next door, fruit and veg I get from a local food co-op or stall. I rarely go near Tesco and only go to Morrisons now and then. Asda I think are also getting more expensive.
No sainsburys near me either.0
