Thought I would use the recent £5 off £40 spend voucher to get main Christmas food shop.O.K. the frozen turkey crown seemed reasonable but the 2 things we have tried so far were dissapointing .The bacon I bought just crumbled in your hand as I tried to remove a slice,we also got some beef quarterpounders that my wife could not eat as seemed to be compressed solid meatloaf texture, and the cheese crackers we picked up were really exspensive as a lot of items did not match the price labels underneath

Like all shops you need to look at what is a good buy and what is not, some things are worth buying some things you shop elsewhere for.
Long has gone the days where the likes of Aldi & Lidl were really really cheaper than other shops. When they first arrived they had mostly German food labels not UK branded products, now they sell branded products they are more expensive to shop in.
You need (like all stores) to try their brands and see if they are to your taste if not buy other brands or shop for these items elsewhere, but you can pick up some good bargains both food wise/electrical/clothing/household. Some of their freezer Christmas offers are not so hot like crab, lobster etc. so you really need to shop wisely and read the thread on what is good and what is not (only one persons opionon but it may help).https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/3743609

Be fair - even Happy Shopper is 'miles better than Lidl'.

I do my main shopping at Aldi, their bacon is rubbish though. And i would never buy their beef burgers. On the other hand, their Lamb and Mint burgers are lovely !

It's trial and error, there are far more things i like at Aldi than i don't.

That's a shame. I've not tried the quarter pounders or cheese crackers but don't recall problems with the bacon. I've had quarter pounders from Iceland that were fine and reasonably priced.

well i shopped in M and S for years, and sainsburys,i started off buying a few bits in lidl, and gradually go there more now,as i find there goods better than sainsburys, and with M and S quality theres only some items worth paying for.as for taste,im fussy what i eat,the only thing i draw the line on is meat,i get that from my local butchers, but looking at lidl meat today it looked good also,so dont see why people look down at lidl.

I'm often caught out with this too. If I remember rightly, on the food shelves, they show the item price above the product and not below like all the other shops.
