Thought I would use the recent £5 off £40 spend voucher to get main Christmas food shop.O.K. the frozen turkey crown seemed reasonable but the 2 things we have tried so far were dissapointing .The bacon I bought just crumbled in your hand as I tried to remove a slice,we also got some beef quarterpounders that my wife could not eat as seemed to be compressed solid meatloaf texture, and the cheese crackers we picked up were really exspensive as a lot of items did not match the price labels underneath
Ill give you that about the bacon, Last pack I bought it fell apart when I tried to remove the rashers. Re the price labels, did you correspond the ticket with the item eg some price tickets are above the item eg hanging from the ceiling like it is for the squash and crisps.0 -
Aldi did some fantastic beefburgers stuffed with stilton a while ago, they were delicious.0

I've always had good bacon from Aldi, I get the 'posh' 6 slice stuff and it's nicer than the Asda and Morries equivalents0

I think perhaps you've been a bit hasty and not been selective enough in your choice of what Aldi has to offer. But we make our own choices and have our own opinions. I just don't happen to agree with yours. As another poster said there's a thread people's likes and dislikes which is helpful. But you pays your money...I just don't pay as much as you!:D0

No idea what happy shopper is, none in my neck of the woods.
It's a really basic range of food and other products used by local shops (newsagents, Spar etc).
And it's generally very poor.
I presume the comment saying that it is better than Lidl's output was meant to be a joke.
Either that or an extremely uninformed view. Most things from Lidl are generally excellent, much better than any Happy Shopper stuff.0 -

No, it wasn't a joke and it wasn't uninformed. I shopped in Lidl not long that after the first branches appeared over here and have ventured in now and then since to see if they have begun to resemble anything better than a Yugoslavian supermarket c. 1974. .
I don't mind if people want to form some sort of cult around a downmarket German supermarket chain, but trying to pretend that Lidl is anything like top of the heap is just.... nuts. And I don't mean pecans.
It is what it is - why pretend otherwise?0 -
Happy Shopper is a brand sold in wholesalers for local shops. Happy Shopper tinned macaroni cheese is actually pretty good but not tried anything else.
Precisely. And the manufacturers who make for Happy Shopper et al are the same manufacturers who produce the knocks-offs and brand-alikes flogged by Aldi, Lidl, Sainsbury's and local market stalls.
There is an enormous amount of kidology going on with the Aldi/Lidl cult. Just how many cheap biscuit factories and soup canners do people imagine the UK has?0 -

That's your problem. 'Looking at some place when it opened, making a crap opinion and sticking by it out of some miserable principal. It is basic, does the job for budget shoppers.PK! :money:0
