..........Right, so after getting up at 5:30am for the last 5 days, you want me to get up at the same time on my day off to do the shopping, visit the bank or get my hair cut.............
I think you're either a troll or one of those people who just lurve to be 'difficult'; if you did get up at that time you would have noticed that the banks and barbers are not open. The questions that get the best answers are the questions that give most detail....0 -
Equally, if I had kids, I'm pretty sure I would rather spend some quality time with them each week than drag them round Aldi.
I don't get your point. Either your drag them around Aldi at night or you drag them around Aldi at the weekend. Personally, I'd prefer the weekend. Heck, at the weekend I can do the shopping and be back before the kids have had breakfast. When they were younger they seemed to like wondering around the store and "helping" with the shopping, and if you mean earlier than that, then that's what a crèche is for0 -

Ok fair enough, not 5:30, but I was trying to make a point. I typically wake up but don't get out of bed at a weekend until at least 9am, then I spend an hour in the bath, then have breakfast whilst watching TV. Doesn't leave much time if the shops were shutting at lunch. At the moment I leave the house in the afternoon (normally about 1pm), do everything I need to, have lunch out, etc. If it was delegated that shops shut at 12 then I wouldn't be able to get any of that done and would have to adjust my routine. To get the same 4 hours I would have to leave the house at 8am.0 -

Just pointing out that this post answered the question in the title of this thread two pages ago.urs sinserly,

Without wanting to sound ridiculous here, I work 71.5h over 7 days, and my OH works similar hours, yet we still both manage to spend time with the kids, get our shopping done, sort the banking out and do everything else we need.
So, if you need to wake up 90 minutes earlier then go to bed 90 minutes earlier the night before; it will soon sink in and you wouldn't have the issue of it being 'strange'.
I'd rather not leave home at 3.20 to be in work at about 4am, but at the same time having that routine is what keeps the family afloat, especially as OH works the afternoon/evening, meaning she can do the morning school run, and I can be around for DD's in evening.

What a terrible thought that you might have to make a very minor adjustment to your lifestyle to allow thousands of others to spend some quality time with their kids.0 -
We take so much for granted in life.
When I was younger banks opened their doors 10am to 3.30pm, 5 days a week. The world coped.
When I was younger ATMs were few and far between. You had to cash a cheque at the branch counter to withdraw. If it wasn't your branch, you waited while they phoned your branch. The world coped.
When I was younger, the internet didn't exist. Your only transactional view was your monthly statement and cheque book stub. The world coped.
When I was younger you paid bills at the counter. Or by quarterly direct debit. Or as an annual lump sum. The world coped.
While the banks deserve some of the criticism they get, they give six day opening in many locations including evening opening for some, tens of thousands of ATMs available nearly 24 hours a day, debit / credit card payment systems that work 99.9% of the time. Same day payment systems that, in most cases, work in an instant. Internet banking services that provide you with close to real time information on your account round the clock, that, when they fail for an hour, cause major excitement on message boards.
Most banks have developed their technology with the times. Some may need to rip out ancient systems and start again. But even then they are providing something way beyond what my parents and grandparents enjoyed.
We are spoiled. We don't actually appreciate how easy the banks make it for us to access and manage our money. Instead many choose to let them profit from our laziness. And then blame the bank.0 -
Thank God times have changed eh?!0

Or we could just leave things as they are and people who want to spend time with their kids will find a way, those that don't are not forced to have time off when they would prefer to be making extra money that they might need.
Lets stop forcing people to do things and allow people to have a choice.0
