Been there done that, got the bloomin' T-shirt. Put it down to experience and move on... seriously it's not worth the hassle.
You may have a very very slim chance of winning the case, but they can't order him to pay money he doesn't have or he may still refuse to pay and then you have to go to the bailiffs... more money you will never see.
Just eat the loss and move on.0 -

Unless you have evidence (a text isnt enough) that he owes you money..i.e a signed document...as he could just say it was a gift / you offered to pay.
Court will most likey throw the case out.
As someone who spent over 6 figures getting shot of an ex I would totally agree with the above.
Learn the lesson and move on, in my case it was worth every single penny to get shot.0 -

When a similar thing happened to me, I rang my ex's mum (back in the days when mobiles weren't as common I rang the landline on the pretext of speaking to him, even though I knew he wasn't there and deliberately sounded tearful on the phone so that she would ask me what was up...). The money was paid in full the next day after she gave him an earful0

OP, I'm going to be blunt here.
Give up and move on. Use this as a life lesson.
You won't get this money back. If you want to take it to the small claims you will need to pay a fee that you wont get back if you lose.
A few text messages won't guarantee you a win.....
I believe in Karma and I'm sure your ex will get what's coming to him at some point.
£480 is a small price to pay to get rid of this A-hole!0 -
Give it up, move on, and learn from it.
You have had a lucky escape, if he is this lacking in morals, so the money is a small price to pay.
LinYou can tell a lot about a woman by her hands..........for instance, if they are placed around your throat, she's probably slightly upset.0 -
I sue people regularly as part of my work.
A 'money claim online claim' for the amount you are looking to recover will cost you £35 (£50 if you do it on the paper form N1).
My experience is that a lot of people pay up when the court paperwork comes through their door. The case never goes to court.
Some people do nothing and you get judgement by default.
A very, very few defend the claim.
If I was you I would issue a claim.0 -
Well you're out £480, what's another £35 to try and scare him into paying? If he calls your bluff and it goes to court then your chances of winning sound slim, as long as you realise that.
You work with him, how would suing him effect the workplace?0 -
Did you meet his parents? I would speak to them about it, if you got on with them before you split. Or at least threaten to go to his parents and tell them. Otherwise just leave it and move on...Slimming World Member - Started 05/02/150

I don't know people keep saying leave it. I know it's a slim chance that this pond scum will pay up but for £35 I'd have a go. If it scares him into paying then great. As I say it's £35 when you're out £480, seems silly not to.0
