Ex boyfriend owes me money

In September me and my then boyfriend went on holiday. In July, when we booked the holiday, we agreed to put it on my credit card (as he doesn't have one), and that he'd give me the money back in cash over the following 2 weeks.
A week later he paid £100, but never paid anything else. This left me being owed £480. As a student, this is a reasonably large amount to me, especially when this is the equivalent of his weekly wage. I know I was stupid, but I genuinely believed he'd paid me back.
Ultimately we split up on holiday. I'd been stressed due to money issues, and it wasn't working. Since we got back, he's been agreeing to pay me the money back. But 3 months later, still nothing.
He texts me all the time, saying things along the lines of "it'll be in your bank tomorrow." etc etc. But still, no money.
I've had enough of it at this point, and I really do need the money back. My mum and step-dad want me to take this to small claims, as i've given him reasonable time and chances to pay back. It's not a lot of money to him, but it is to me. I was just wanting advice on if small claims is the best way forward, and if so how I should approach a claim?
Thanks!

Tbh, usally... in these bf/gf 'I lent money..' cases... people tell you to take it on the chin.
Unless you have evidence (a text isnt enough) that he owes you money..i.e a signed document...as he could just say it was a gift / you offered to pay.
Court will most likey throw the case out.People don't know what they want until you show them.0 -
Unfortunately I think it's one of those situations where it's one person's word against another. I wasn't sure whether the texts would help your case but I doubt it.
Sorry, you may have to write it off as an expensive lessonFirst home purchased 09/08/2013

The sum is much higher but as you have the text messages from him saying he will pay you back you might actually be able to win this in the small claims court.Starting Mortgage Balance: £264,800 (8th Aug 2014)
Current Mortgage Balance: £269,750 (18th April 2016)0 -

Then he says he never sent the text..thats not his number... etc.
Texts aren't enough.
You could always tell him that your starting court proceedings if its not in your bank by XXX date...might work.People don't know what they want until you show them.0 -
I'll be impressed if you see another penny of that money back.
He'll drag it out and out in the hope that you'll eventually stop asking for it.
Eventually you'll stop asking for it and will write it off as a bad experience.
'Never lend any money that you can't afford to lose' is the harsh but true reality of it.0 -
Thanks everyone. I'm going to keep considering it, and just seeing what happens. As far as I see it, submitting a claim and it getting thrown out is at least trying. If I don't try, i'll never know.
It is starting to make me wonder if he's ever done it before. It's been horrible, especially when he's seen me struggle with money really badly. Unfortunately we still have to work together as well, and he's watched me cry over debt at work and still refuses to pay.0 -

True, but you have to pay for it so more money for a very slim chance of winning. (If you did win it will added onto his debt though...)
Best bet is to try and get him to admit in an Email he owes it you...its not a letter but its better then a text if your admanant you want to go down this route but emails can be faked to...
Anyone know of top of their head how much small claims is ?People don't know what they want until you show them.0 -

What a toe rag! I do hope you get the money back but if you don't, learn from this please.'The only thing that helps me keep my slender grip on reality is the friendship I have with my collection of singing potatoes'

Let it go. All the time he is stringing you along you are not getting on with your life, and are effectively tied to an ex. Some things are more important than money.Been away for a while.0
