Ah, so only £20 then.
....if it ever tracks.
I've already (in my mind) spent it, I've been after a laundry basket from the Land of Lakes for about five years, it's finally gone down in price to £19, so I'll effectively be getting it free.I'm so glad I waited. :rotfl:
Woke up with a hideous migraine (gone now, thankfully), but it's hardly helped that all morning the phone's been ringing with nuisance calls from some debt collection agency - despite the person they're after never having lived here (we're the first people to have lived here & we've had more than a few 'you owe us money' letters for a whole range of people. Very strange, but probably down to the awkward address we've got, urgh).
All of today's plans to go out and about are off since I still feel wiped out, so Operation Tidy House will engage instead.
I feel a list coming on.... a list! *does the list dance* :money: - dishwasher on, nuke kitcken
- laundry. laundry, laundry
- give up all hope that Mr M will clear his clutter & tidy the surfaces
- clean bathroom
- sweep floors
- change bed linen
- big pot of tea and finish off two books if possible!
- MSE catch up omg.
- phone parentals re: funeral travel & such
- warm compress to sort my eyes out
- yoga session
- do some writing
For heaven's sake, I've not said! Mr M finally got job news! Salary will be a tad more than hoped for, which is fantastic and just takes the eek-cost-of-living-down-there edge off slightly. He also gets a car allowance which we've been looking into, there are some potentially great savings to be made with that which is tr!s exciting (we're a no car family at the moment so to have the luxury of one, and super cheap at that, is rather dreamy). Still a few official things to sort out and then we'll be good to go.
Haven't had a chance to discuss proper relocation timeline yet, but I guess we're looking end of July, but more like the first few weeks in August. We were going to keep this place on for a while longer but I don't know what's possible considering the cost of going to this funeral, so we need to do some sums. Will probably head down to Londinium next weekend to have a good wander around places (& hopefully see some nice houses/flats, eeep! Rightmove here I commmmmmmme!).a penny picker upper. Tell me about it, it's hardly any time at all, I think things are suddenly going to get a bit whirlwind-like around here... :eek:a penny picker upper. Didn't get through much of the list yesterday due to impromptu trip to !kea.
Only bought some shower puff things and a large plastic box for storage/moving.
Mr M found himself some random odds and ends before we popped into the nearby bike shop where he managed to find a folding bike for half the price he was going to pay anyway (& he still managed to get another discount off it! What is he like?! :rotfl:)
Started to do some sums and chatted more about moving & possibilities. I might have to rethink what my work plans are after all, but the flip side of this is that there seem to be a lot of jobs down there that would suit me, so not too much of an alarming prospect. It should make life easier not to be running all over the country everywhere, plus saving me £200-300 a month - probably best to look at what works out best financially, rather than running myself ragged for not much pay off.
Not sure what the plan is for today, maybe a quick nip into Aldee but mostly resting and attempting this list again...

Sorry to hear of your recent loss, but it's good that you'll be able to go to the funeral. Sometimes funerals are the only chance we get to catch up with the extended family
Exciting news about the upcoming move, though!Early retired - 18th December 2014
If your dreams don't scare you, they're not big enough0 -
Yes, I'm looking forward to seeing (mostly!) everyone. We are all quite far flung across the country so it's really only at things like this we get to reconnect.
Starting to get very excited about the move.We went through all the food cupboards and have put together a bag for the foodbank, and a few things are out on the counter waiting to be used up. Ended up throwing out some tins & things, oh dear. Will definitely be making sure we get back into the swing of the storecupboard spreadsheet in our new place.
We're planning to go down next week to have a wander around some areas and hopefully see some places. Can't wait, house shopping is the best. :rotfl:
Had a bit of drama while tidying yesterday - a rice dream had managed to get lodged at the back of the fridge and ended up hanging, encased in ice, off the wall. Mr M managed to skilfully remove it, but now I'm down a rice dream. Booo.
Ignored some bits of the list above (poor neglected bathroom) but ended up almost filling up another bag for life with bits of the charity shop. :j
Bacon sarnies for tea and we're about to use up some ginger cake & custard we had lurking in the cupboard.
Still so behind with my MSE catching upI hope everyone's doing ok, with any luck I'll find out what you're all up to before Christmas rolls round. :rotfl:
:www: MFW Wonderment: 1p into the kittybank. Ended up getting a free £10 bet, whacked it on Belguim to win and ended up getting £12 back, woo! Took back a tenner to replace the original money I spent, so that's a straight £30 cashback to me (had to put in a claim for it though, grr!). Used the last £2 to put a little flurry of 10p bets on the football & tennis, if they all come off I'll be £16 up, please all cross your fingers and toes. :rotfl: Don't think I'll make a habit of this, its a) too stressful and b) I'm so indecisive it took me a ridiculously long time to choose what to place the money on and I'm sure there are better things I could do with my time than agonising what to do with 10p. :rotfl:
:coffee: Simple Pleasures: clearer shelves, sunny skies, beautiful cups of green tea, daydreaming about spacious new living arrangements, staying up late reading a good book.
:heartsmil Burrow Building: Mr M came home with the most fantastic board game the other day (Takenoko) - you slowly build up a bamboo forest and move around a little panda to eat it all up (with all sorts going on in-between), really charming stuff. Can't wait to have more space so we can have a nice big table for board games.a penny picker upper. PM...just popping in for a minute to say that if you do decide to get a job in London, it might be worth looking at different areas of London as the north west (I think you were considering that) is the most expensive bit.
Where I live (Zone 6), you could get a 3 bed rental for £1,200 pm and a 3 bed to buy for £250,000 (or less). Just to give you an idea of prices in cheaper (but still nice) parts of the city.Mortgage (original/ current):193,000 (23/09/11)/ £102,500 (07/11/2019)

Just checking in PM.
So sorry for your loss.
Glad other areas are looking up!

Ooh, thanks mouche. We'll definitely be in the west/north west for Mr M's job
... at least to start with - once we know we'll be staying for a while we'll start investigating further afield.
It's good to know there's vaguely affordable places out there though, so exciting to think we won't have to rent for-ev-errrr(!). All the more reason to keep up the MFW plans of action.
Thanks MCIIt's getting exciting now we're starting big clearouts ready for the move

Just quickly nipping in, proper update later methinks.
All went as well as it could last week, we're both still recovering from the long journeys but it was nice seeing family and the troublemakers kept mostly to themselves, whew.
It was lovely tootling about the mountains and experiencing long summer evenings, I really miss those down here, I never feel like it's properly summer unless it's still light at 11pm. Must try and start getting away northwards for a week or so in the summer to get my fix. :rotfl:
Now we're back we're starting to rev up on the move - planning to travel down in a couple of weeks to have a proper look at accommodation. It's probably helped having quite a bit of time to think about it as we've been crunching all sorts of numbers and now have a good idea of what we can manage/how we can spend cleverly to make the most of our money which will set us up for the long term. More on that anon.
Moneywise, 5p into the kittybank and £40 into main savings. My £70 payment on Quidco has been delayed, grrr. Nothing much else to report really.
Meals all planned up for the next while. The eating down of the cupboards/freezer continues apace - planning a random fruit crumble for some point this week, I'll see how many random odds & ends I can put it in it. :rotfl: Ooh, we made pineapple icecream yesterday (double cream, condensed milk & pineapple flavour), shall be test tasting that later today :A
....before getting back to grips with reducing sugar intake next week.
A cheesy roll & bacon calls, plus we're off to make sure of these cinema cards later so much dash. Hope everyone's doing ok! :wave:a penny picker upper.
