Boo hiss to skanky employers!
Hope you are feeling better - do take care of yourself, moving is a big undertaking!NST March lion #8; NSD ; MFW9/3/23 Whoop Whoop!!!0 -
Glad you are beginning to feel better.
At least you are now free to get fully fit again and prepare for the move, so every cloud has a silver lining. But it's very disappointing the way they treated you:(Early retired - 18th December 2014

Hi pearla hope you are felling better today, I don't know much about employment law but it might be worth posting on the citizens advice thread here ? It does seem worth doing something about the situation and it's a very poor way to treat employees.
Clearly not the same but at our small business one member of staff walked out , literally one day refused to do a job asked (part of his normal daily job) and swore at another member of staff , walked out around lunchtime , we had to send numerous letters and have meetings and give various warnings. It took about 6 weeks to dismiss him (he never wanted to come back or apologised) during this time he was on full pay - as per the law. Basically he wanted to leave and by doing it this way got a lot of extra pay. So it seems hard to believe it would be so easy for your employers to do what they are trying to do?MFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁0 -
Gosh, that's awful newgirly.
It's completely shocking how people act sometimes - you'd think they'd at least want to go by the book so they'd get good references etc?!
It's easy for the above to happen to me as I don't have a contract of employment (the law says you're entitled to a contract within two months of starting, which I didn't get despite asking for one). As I'd only worked there a short while, by law you only need to give a weeks notice (on either side) unless a contract says otherwise. (This amount changes though depending on the number of years you've worked somewhere).
It's quite hard for me to argue with them as I've been ill and don't have holidays accrued, as far as I can make out this week would have had to be taken as unpaid leave in which case it sort of works out? (Although, I've just broken off writing to read up on this and it does look like I'd need to speak to someone at CAB to shed some light on this).
Though technically my last day should have been today if a weeks notice was given last week, so I should have got NI contributions for this week at least? (Actually, I think the law makes it a weeks notice since I was given it by the employer, so actually next week?!) But to be honest, I'm not sure it's worth getting into a huge fight about it over such a small amount of time/money, and it's such a grey area - I'm trying to get hold of some work I did for them which would be good for my portfolio and I'd probably rather try and get them to give me that and just pay the NI stuff myself.
The other reason is that I could do with getting a good reference off them and don't want to lose out on that, otherwise I probably would question them on it. I may still yet (especially if it looks like they won't do me the favour of giving me a copy of my work), I'm quite furious that things haven't been done by the book. I don't think it was done in a malicious way, it's just ignorance, which is painful enough.
Thanks for all your commiserations & well-wishes, folksI just had to have a proper moan and poor Mr M had already had an earful, lol. Thankfully flu symptoms are making a swift departure, though another day on the sofa is in order. I might treat myself to some gentle box-packing and clothes-sorting-out though.
PS. Disappointed to have had no thunderstorms yet. It's a bit gloomy though, so I'll probably spend all day checking metcheck and raintoday to see if they're on their way. :rotfl:a penny picker upper. No interesting weather up here as yet, unless you count the hailstorm of tissues by the sofa.
I managed to bundle up some stuff into two boxes yesterday and that quite did me in. Thankfully feeling a darn sight better today so here's to three more packed boxes! :rotfl:
I have a feeling most of the day will feature directing Mr Merle to various tasks - he can be the Tenzig Norgay to my laundry mountain. :rotfl:
I can't even declutter all the beers I stashed in the fridge the other week.I suppose polishing off library books it is then.

Not much to report! Am finally feeling human again and have been packing boxes like a demon. Have done the majority of it, so now I feel like that's under control I'm starting to tie up other loose ends that are hanging about.
This evening I sorted out my CV, I just need to polish that off and prettify it tomorrow. I've got a couple of jobs lined up that I want to apply for - so fingers crossed!
Had some sad news about two close friends being very ill last week as well, so I feel like I'm only just coming round from all that as well.Really hope & pray things perk up for them. If anything, it's made me realise all the more that I want to eliminate all the stress and energy drains in my life asap. I want to spend more quality time with friends instead of all this ships passing in the night nonsense that seems to have been the way of things over the past few years. I've missed out on quite a lot due to one thing or another.
We've had some silliness going on with the contracts for the flat we're currently in, we were hoping to get back some money but now it doesn't look like that'll be the case. Who knows how it'll work out but slowly all the plans for moving are coming together so I've decided to (attempt) to do everything that needs to be done in as serene a manner as possible. If certain things don't get done they don't get done, and everything that needs to get done will no doubt get done, so why bother using up energy worrying?
In clutter news, two more charity shop bags are waiting in the hall, and I've decided that quite a few things I've packed already will probably be donated we get down the road.
It's roasting here, I may actually be melting. Remind me not to move house in high summer ever again.
:www: MFW Wonderment: continued no spending, 1p into the kittybank, CV almost ready to head out into the big wide world again. Mood and energy has lifted and feel ready to face the world again (rather helpful when needing to adopt attitude of supreme positivity when job hunting).

I'm impressed by your new serene approach. Moving normally brings out the worst in people. You're not kidding, everyone's got their preferred way of doing things and it's easy to feel stressed when two different plans of action bump up against each other.
I can't believe it's Friday. I actually thought it was Thursday. Even Mr M thought it was Thursday. What a shock we got this morning. So I'm actually a day down on what I thought I had. :rotfl:
Another awkward job ticked off the list this morning, and CV has been completed (awaiting polishing from Mr M who has better document software on his computer). Will send that through to those two jobs today and look for more employment opportunities for it tonight.
Righty, must get on. More irritating last minute jobs that include dealing with awkward people to get out of the way.a penny picker upper. Glad you're on the mend P*M but sorry about your friends, hopefully they will also be heading towards recovery soon.
Sounds like you're steaming ahead with the packing ... do you have an actual moving date and start date for Mr. P*M yet? No clashes with Kate Bush?
.... Oh and don't worry, I've had the wrong day all week too, even when looking at my diary several times a day to organise schedule, deadlines etc, no excuse here really!Stash busting 2014 45 / 60 (balls of yarn)!
