Dear Steph, take a breath, we are only three weeks into a 52 week target. You paying off anything this month would be brilliant because you need to get enough money together to cover your husband's operation. So once you get that covered you can look at what may , or may not, be possible in this longest and most difficult month. You will get there this year, and you are right to be keeping your eye on everything because that is the key. In comparison with this time last year you have made so much progress it is incredible. Like the sound of your small holding plans.

    Hi Steph,

It is a very long month isn't it...!! But on the positive side, February is a lovely short one and before we know it spring will be peeking round the corner...!!

Like you I've been doing the 'how much work has OH got' conversation to myself, but give him his due even though he had 3  weeks off over christmas and into the NY he has given me cash each week.. I did have to subsidise with my christmas money but then I don't really NEED anything, just lots of things I could have bought that I WANTED... I'm still clinging onto my gift cards mind!!!

Hope all sorts itself out with your OH's work and that you can get debt busting soon..

Try and enjoy your sunday, I'm off to cuddle my nieces later that's always a pleasure..!

    Take Care

    Hi Puzz,

It is a painfully long month!!. I will just ride the last couple of weeks and do the best I can with the money we have. Can't make it stretch any further.

Hope you had a lovely day with your nieces. xx

    Hi tootallulah,

You are right, its very easy to feel overwhelmed starting a new debt busting year, when January is always a real struggle.

January 2014 was a very scary time, I was behind on the mortgage, council tax and countless creditors. At least when I have a rough month my minimum payments are now around £600pm rather than over £1,000 pm.

With Februarys payment my Littlewoods Catalogue should finally be paid off, which then transfers an extra £184 pm onto my next debt which is the Co-op card. By March my overpayments onto my target debt should be pretty large and the snowball will start to feel like it is gathering some speed.

Just got to put my head down and keep going. Its hard not to have the occasional panic attack though :o

Hope all is well with you and you have had a lovely weekend xx
  • Hi Steph,

You are doing great.... I think we all just get impatient at the start of the new year....

    Have a great week ahead.

    Hi Steph,

Good luck with everything, I think most people are in the same boat in January with lack of money. I feel like I've been working crazy shifts for the last couple of weeks just to cover bills. Do you have the two council tax free months coming up?
    Mortgage 26.4.25 - £108,500  1.9.25 - £105,664.31
    Mortgage overpayment savings - £7.93/£50
Mortgage overpayments so far - £800.96

    Hi MissT

Shame all your extra shifts are not for extra money :(, not just to cover bills. I did that over Christmas with my wreaths. I made about £500 and was really pleased, but as hubby had two weeks off work, we didn't feel any better off for that extra work. :o. But I guess at least it avoided a financial crisis.

Unfortunately my Council Tax is split over 12 months. I did this at the beginning of last year to make the payments abit more manageable. Only £20 less per month though. slightly wishing I had the two months break now, but I can't have it all ways I suppose :D.

I am hoping on a double Childrens Tax Credit payment in February. Its looking like it might happen and I could really do with it. xx
  • Morning,

YNAB all balanced to my bank statement.

Nice to have a peaceful house this morning, now the family have all gone off to work and school. Need to get myself motivated as the kitchen needs a good blast.

Ds had tummy ache all last night and was looking abit pasty this morning so I am half expecting a phone call from school at some point today _pale_. There is a sick bug going round school, but you never know when these children try it on, so sent him to school just in case.

Haven't got any treatments booked for this week yet, only my £20 cleaning job on Wednesday morning. Could really do with the extra money.

We had a fox trying to attack one of our geese on Saturday, She flew over the fence and into the yard. It was only when I saw a white thing flash past the window that I noticed it was after her. The fox has slow eaten all of our hens and ducks and we only have my precious geese left now :(. Hubby has promised to teach me how to fire his gun, but I am more of the run out, manically waving my arms type of person :D.

People say you should get an Alpaca to guard them, but have you seen the price of them .
Oh well, enough of my farming issues, wrong forum :rotfl:

Got to have 5 NSD's this week. Got to finish budget menu plan today and shopping list. Will get that tonight when Dd does gymnastics.

Have a good day all. xxx

Thanks abba & clearmydebts. We will keep plodding on like we always do I suppose :o

I have listed a few things on Ebay this morning. They should all together come to around £100 which will help fluff the bank balance up abit. They are all ending this Saturday, so hopefully I can get the money in the bank to relieve abit of the pressure.

The fox attacked one of my geese yesterday, I have moved them into the barn. A neighbour rescued my attacked goose before the fox could finish it off. She is also in the barn now. not looking too great but she might survive. fingers Crossed.

Not a lot else to report, Ds is still off school although is now looking perfectly fine , so will pack him back to school tomorrow.

I have paid a lot of the little outstanding extra bills that we had so I feel like I am catching up with my backlog. Just have hubbys tax bill to face end of January, it is £330 so not as bad as previous years and will scrape that together somehow.

Freezing in this house today but only have four bars of oil let in the tank, so may have to start firing up the woodburner soon. No way I can add a £300+ oil delivery bill to the list as well. :o

    xx
  • Hi Steph. I think alpacas are divine, and they sometimes appear on the rescue sites.

I think you are doing amazingly well, its funny how when we strive for things we become so self critical.

Take it a day at a time. I hope that fox b^ggers off!
    Trying to shift that debt!
