I have a LG TV that has broken :( I have been quoted for repair £105

it is this one http://www.lg.com/uk/tvs/lg-32LD790-lcd-tv

Just after some thoughts on whether it is worth paying the repair cost or to go for a new one (in the sales)?

Can anyone recommend anything new that would be similar spec? It needs to be the same size as a larger one would look out of place.

regarding the netcast they mention, I am ashamed to say I didn't even know it did this  I am not sure if that information is correct.

Thanks

That's an old set. I've no advice about what to buy to replace it, I'd think that would be decided by the offers you see "in the sales".

Old???? I have had it a couple of years (certainly under 3 years, probably just over 2 I can't remember exactly) it cost me nearly £400! I was think of getting a new one due the fact it might be not cost much extra as I appreciate the prices have come down lots. I was not considering it as old :( I know technology moves on quick, I must be out of date on these things, how often does the average person replace a tv because it is 'old'

I appreciate your input you have certainly made me see it in a new light.

They want nearly a quarter of the original price to fix it. By "old", I meant it's an old model which is no longer available, not that it is physically old.
    £400 is a budget price.

    £199.00 - bit higher spec

    £219.00

The trouble is technology moves so fast that literally once you got in your home, theres a newer model in stock, we've got a sony - 5 years old I paid £400 - 26in, now I could pick up a replacement for £120+

I personally wouldn't bother with the repair, you could get it repaired and 3 months down the line the fault may occur again, or something else.

I've just pulled a few links from Argos and you can get a new 32in from £180, so for £75 extra - you have a new TV and peace of mind.

Oh sorry I get what you mean now. £400 is alot of money to me, I couldn't afford £400 on a replacement. If I brought a new one it would be a supermarket special :o

In that case get it repaired, because a supermarket special (a Technika or a Bush) will be vastly inferior to watch, and have a short life.
LG is an excellent budget brand, the others are just badge jobs.

I would also say avoid Technika, as there the basic brands, Bush has been round a long time, Sony, LG, Toshiba are also good brands. x

thank you that is what I was wondering myself, is it worth repairing one from a better manufacturer than I would replace it with.

Both are risks, but the advantage to buying a new set is you'll get a full guarantee. How long is the repair guaranteed for?

To be honest I didn't ask (I will do if I decide to go ahead with the repair), it is slightly irrelevant as if the tv were to fail again it would probably be on something that is separate to what was repaired so wouldn't be covered anyway.

I understand what you are saying I get a years guarantee with a new one. That is the dilemma, will my tv fail again in the next year, if I knew the answer to that my decision would be easy.
