I would also say avoid Technika, as there the basic brands, Bush has been round a long time, Sony, LG, Toshiba are also good brands. x

Yes it has, but since 2008 it's just a brand name owned by Homebase/Argos, along with Alba. It's not an actual manufacturer: their TV's will just be badged up job lots, the same as Technika.
The only decent budget brands are LG, Samsung and maybe Toshiba.

TV's are generally very reliable, the odds are it won't fail in another year-which is about as long as a Technika will last.

If you buy a new one from Richer Sounds you will get a good price AND you will have the opportunity of buying a 5 year guarantee for 10% of the purchase price!

If that's the case, why is the OP's TV currently needing repair? :)

If the actual fault is known and it is only 2 years old, it may be worth contacting the manufacturer, saying you don't think it's fit for purpose. My son did this and the manufacturer (Sony), offered a subsidised repair, but paid for the whole repair as he found someone who would repair it for much less than their standard repair cost.

You don't mention what actually needs to be repaired, but I think in this case it's worth doing - you'll be out £300-£400 to get another TV as good.

I think he said it was the control panel/board (it needs a new one) sorry I am not technical so didn't really pay that much attention to what needed fixing just the price :o

mum2one.......Bush were once, ( a long time ago ), good TV's , however for the last 25 years or so they have been cheapo sets made in Turkey. Many other budget models are actually made in the same factory's .

It has got to the point that even the cheaper models made by the likes of Toshiba are just rebadged cheapies.

Another example is Hitatchi, they were once a good manufacturer however they are also rebadged cheapies.

Your get what you pay for....if you see a good make at a good price then that's a bargain....however if you buy an unknown brand at a low price you are buying a low value TV.

No idea, but it does improve the odds against a second failure in the next twelve months.

My husband once asked a customer, who sells tvs, about certain Panasonic models which only seemed to be available at Tesco and were cheaper than elsewhere. He was told that these models are specially made down to a price, so are probably inferior.
