This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

Morning all
TTFM, I hope you get through your last days at work ok & I hope your hubby enjoys the Christmas break, one of our tech teachers is taking early retirement and is going to be a technician instead, it's a huge drop in salary, down to about £7k a year, he has a young family & they are taking a mortgage holiday in the hopes of downsizing at a later date.
Hugs to Molly, MM, hope you get warm soon, LW, I can't remember the last time I got washing dry outside, it's to damp here & too mild to have the heating on. Hilstep, thinking of you.
I slept better last night apart from hubby having an argument in his sleep, my neighbour's car is still outside so no noise from him yet.
Time I fed the fish, they are queued up against the glass, glaring at me.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs Hester
Chin up, Titus out.

Dinner tonight is Leek and Potatoe soup that i made yesterday, i just have to fry some bacon off to pop in it.
Finally got the xmas decs up at home yesterday but think i over-reached when doing the ceiling ones as my back is killing me today.
Anyway best get on and empty the DW for the first time today.

Wet and windy here, will take DD to the station on my way cos I am a good Mummy!!!

Hoping the ariel/arial (can't decide which is the correct spelling!) chap comes this afternoon as he didn't come on Monday and we still have no working tv. Had to watch Last Tango In Halifax on DDs kindle last night which is a tad small but worked fine.

School is incredibly busy, juniors party today, santa visited the infants yesterday. Love seeing them go home with all their hand made decorations.

Not sure what's for tea, will have a think later, had salmon last night which was lovely. Take care. XX

The heating didn't come on this morning, I checked the boiler and the pressure is too low. Easily fixable, just turn the screw to let more water in. Except the screw won't turn, the head is worn away. I've used brute force on screws before to get them out, but not sure that's a good idea on a boiler :D I'll have to turn the water off, try all the suggestions that Google has thrown up, hope I can find a new screw that matches, then faff about bleeding the radiators to get rid of air bubbles.

Town was busy yesterday but not too bad. Except for Iceland, which was packed. I got through the till quickly though, I only had four things so a man let me go in front of him. I usually say no – I always feel like I'm pushing in – but this time I said yes, I couldn't wait to get out :D

I'm almost done now :j Mr tru is picking up the turkey crown after work (can't remember which day, lol) and I'll get fruit and veg at the weekend.

Thanks :D I was just reading about rubber bands, will try both.

There's lots of solutions for screws in wood, I'm not sure bashing it with a hammer is a good idea on a boiler :D If all else fails I could use a dremel but I'm not sure my hand is steady enough, I'll probably slip and cut a pipe :rotfl:

Morning everyone

I didn't get on yesterday so have missed a Happy Birthday - I'm sorry I can't recall who's either, hope you had a good dayx

Hugs to all those that are feeling sad/poorly x

Still very dark here, but looks wet underfoot again.

DH up and gone to work early but not stupid early.

Dinner last night was a cheeky chippy takeaway. Had a bit of a nightmare - got up yesterday and DH went to make the tea's and my coffee and the milk was off - so opened another new carton - that was off - we then soon established that the fridge part of the fridge freezer had stopped working completely and it was as warm inside the fridge as it was in the rest of the house! So had to then throw the contents of the fridge away - some of the milk was so "off" I couldn't even tip it out of the bottles to wash it down the sink! Trying not to think how much money's worth of food I've had to throw away but at least none of us have been ill because of it and I hadn't yet got all the xmas food in - so trying to be positive about the whole situation. The freezer part was working fine. The worrying part was that the temperature gauge was reading normal and it has a warning signal on it if the temperature increases etc - were all reading that everything was fine and there wasn't a problem - but there clearly was - nothing was cold. Have managed to order another one and they are delivering this afternoon - could really have done without the expense but can't really manage without a fridge for any length of time. The freezer contents were taken last night to MIL's and she has a spare freezer so she'd turned that on for us yesterday morning and I went and put the frozen bits in there. Whilst I took the frozen stuff to MIL's, DH and DS1 re-tiled the wall behind the fridge freezer and they also managed to get the old 1 outside - so now have a tiled wall where it was bare plaster before - once the fridge/freezer is in situ you can't see that much but you could see some bare plaster - now it's all tiled - so looks much better. After the last 3 weeks we're hoping that's the 3rd thing to go wrong and now life will settle down a bit!

On-line order arrived - so have stocks of beer and the other alcohol and picky bits, ie, crisps etc. Will just need to purchase fresh fruit and veg at the weekend.

Managed to get my xmas cards written last night - have cut down drastically on how many I write and send - we haven't received that many and thing most of our friends have done the same, the cost has become too much for so many people.

Keep safe and well x

• Good Morning,

Quite bright here today with a bit of Sun at last!

Dinner in the slow cooker - Beef stew as we have a presentation evening at DS2's school early evening.

I'm off to do more Christmas shopping this morning and pop cards through doors. Might get time to pop and see my dad before work too.

It just all seems a bit manic at the moment. That'll teach me to leave crimbo present buying until the last minute!

Anyway, hope you all have a great day :)

Morning all,
I haven't been on here for months so I have no idea what you're all up to but hope it's all good news.
I finished the decorating last night and wrapped the last present. Made a shopping list as long as my arm. We are having our Christmas family gathering here on Sunday, plan to do a full roast pork dinner and a nut roast for the veggies. Hm xmas pud and a cheese cake for those who don't like xmas pud.

I've sorted out the table linen but I need to re iron most of it as it's a bit creased where it's been stacked in the linen cupboard.
Bm and wm on the go, I'll get DH to put all wrapping paper and empty boxes in the attic so I can blitz the bedrooms.

Hope you're all well and keeping warm.
