You're right Jonsey, I should be more positive! I will be!

Re: Shoes. Love them and I'm the same 5'2 and all the pretty shoes are there for the taking! Until it comes to walking. :rotfl: I'm sorry you can't wear them now though.

Hi giblet! How are you? Thanks for the support, I think I was just in one of those woe is me moods.

    ---
Opened another current account today! 5% please :rotfl: This month I got a few pence over £30 in interest! Very pleased.

Been reading the millionaire next door, it's very repetitive but interesting. It suggests that accountancy is the way to go and my thought processes are along the right lines to accumulate wealth. So I've decided to write down what I want to achieve next month, by the end of this year and by 60. Not sure if I should put on a by end of my life one so I won't... yet.

    Month:
    • Sage Exam Pass
    • Effective accountancy module finished and exam booked
    • Work out where I want to do my next AAT level
    • Save at least £800 (preferably £1000)
    • Apply to at least 8 jobs
    • Clear more stuff from my house!

    Year:
    • Be at least half way through level 3 AAT
    • Save another £3000
    • Help my mum and sister into new jobs
    • Get a better job/one that gets me into accountancy proper or as close as I can get
    • Move out maybe.
    • Continue to add to my investment

    By 60:
    • Be at the top of my career OR work part time
    • Be a millionaire (dream big)
    • Not sure

    Passed my exam today! Woot!

Yay! Well done on Sage exam pass. I love Sage :) Can I ask an odd question? Do you need a degree to go into accountancy?

Sorry you were also feeling so down and happy you're getting back up there. Sometimes life throws a few curveballs at once eh. Your savings and everything are great. Keep on swimming Peaty :)

Yay! you're back (not that you relly went but i was getting a bit worried).

I enjoy working in management accounts - its hard work and long hours but i do find it strangely rewarding :)

lilt - nope, you don't need a degree. If you have have one though you can technically start the exams higher up (eg CIMA) even if the degree was completely unrelated - some companies encourage this, some would rather people get AAT/ more detailed knowledge and experience before moving up as AAT covers quite a bit in detail. If you have a finance related degree then you could get CIMA or ACCA exemption and fast track through the exams (although you'd still need 3 years experience to qualify anyway). Hope my ramble makes sense!

    Hey guys.

Bit mopey today, my relationship has come to an end but it's his problem, I'm awesome.

Sorry lilt, I have done the sage exam yet, it's next month. Jonsey is right, you don't need one but it is getting more and more difficult to get into the field without one. Quite a lot of graduate positions require a year or more of accounts experience so graduates are going into accounts payable/payroll/etc for a couple of years which are more general starting points. Still definitely a good industry to get into.

Accounts seem like a very rewarding career choice. I'm glad you're enjoying your job Jonsey. Do you think you're going to chase more senior positions soon or want to stay at your current level?

Jonesy, thanks so much for your response. It does make sense. My boss offered to put me through the exams as I have an aptitude for it. We work in financial services, and I've spent the last 5 years doing accounts without a degree or exam to my name. I've moved off into the rest of our sector for the moment which is a bit of a headwreck for me. I miss my numbers.

Peaty...! I am so sorry chickadee. That is rubbish. But you are right, he is an idiot and you are epic. These muggles just don't understand what they have. Big hugs at you. Keep on swimming

    You are indeed awesome KP.

Once the exams are done I'll definitely be looking to move up. I think it's rewarding when you're challenged - hopefully management positions will come up around then. I will have been with my company about 18 months/2 years so would be a good time to progress as i'll have a more detailed understanding of the company too.

Still a bit unsettled from last weekend. I've been keeping busy though, I've been playing DnD, going to rotaract, going to the pub, studying and finally going to London for the weekend. Spent about £100 in one weekend  It was great though! We played in a playground, why do we ever stop!?

Also just spent £60 on underwear, socks and a swimming costume. I've decided to start swimming... That's a lot of money I've just spent. Ahh!

Applied to two accountancy jobs today, fingers crossed. Also applied to a financial services job, spoke about my start in investments and my personal finance hobby. You never know?!

Lilt, my mum has worked in accounts since the 60's or 70's without a certification, exam or anything above an o-level. Officially she's an Accounts Assistant, but she could have moved up if she wanted to. She didn't because she liked what she was doing, not too much stress (at the time), reasonable job security and good wages. Have a look at this or search by accounts payable?

Aww Jonsey, I'd love to be in your position! Good luck with all of your exams and I really hope you move up in the company!

Still can't believe he was such an idiot. You deserve better, honestly!

Sounds like keeping busy is expensive but just what you need! And you do know that you don't need socks and underwear to o swimming usually? ;)

Fingers crossed on the job front!!

Your mums job sounds just like what I've been doing for 5 years. I moved across into business management/HR too but on 3 days a week something had to give. Now all of it has gone and I miss it :( Still, I still work in finance and I am learning a whole bunch about (N)ISA's, clean share classes, probate and all manner of stuffs!!

    Hugs atcha!!
