Trusteer rapport

First off - I have to declare an interest. I have installed and used RAPPORT on both laptops for around 5 years, and to my knowledge, it has never caused any problems . Initially it was provided by my bank (HSBC).
To cover myself in the event of any fraud on my account while banking online I downloaded and installed RAPPORT on both laptops.

As a regular reader of this forum it seems that RAPPORT is considered by posters a lot more knowledgeable than me as a definite no-no.

Searching the forum, I can't find a post which explains WHY Rapport is considered such a problem.

Over the years, I have come to like RAPPORT, and use it on all sites where I have to enter Bank Card details.

Agree that it uses a lot a lot of resources, and on my old Packard Bell I only enabled it when entering bank details etc, but on new laptop it runs from start-up with no problems (Hopefully someone might explain why RAPPORT is such a no-no)

Laptops

Packard Bell 2008 running VISTA
Samsung 2012 running Windows 8 (Windows 8.1 not, and will not, be installed)

Grateful for any advice on using Rapport, particularly from HERE TODAY/NIFTY DIGITS.

Cheers

Because it's a keylogger, and because it's a resource hogger.
You do not have to have Crapport installed in order to get a refund should fraud occur on your online account, much as Santander might try to convince you otherwise with it's ceaseless nagging pop-ups.

    Agree it's a keylogger.
Agree it's a resource hogger. (see my original post)
Agree it's HSBC covering their a*ses
But given all that, WHY DO I STILL LIKE IT!

Do'nt know why you mentioned Santander in your reply, given that in my OP I stated I was a HSBC costumer.

Obviously, like a lot lot on here, you replied to my post before reading it.

It brought OH's PC to its knees (also Vista), and the symptoms disappeared once it was removed.

Only you can tell us that. What do you want from this thread? We hate it for the reasons you list, but you don't seem to share our feelings. What result do you seek?

Have been around computers long enough to know that problems/(perceived) causes are not always related.

Still no wiser as to why I won't uninistall RAPPORT.

I bank with HSBC and for a several months, every time I went to log on I was assailed with dire warnings of doom and destruction if I didn't download Rapport. They never actually said so blatantly but there was always a strong implication that if I didn't, they wouldn't accept responsibility for any online fraud by third parties.

I knew that to be tosh and the continual bombardment of these warnings really got up my nose ... so much so that I wrote to them and complained. I dare say a lot of other people did too and they no doubt had loads of complaints about the affect it was having on customers' computers.

For some time now it's disappeared off the login screen, I'm no longer getting the personal emails advising me to download it, and it is now 'hidden' behind a small link saying 'Security Downloads'. :rotfl:

The bad press is based on other users bad experiences with it.

If you personally don't have problems with it, why remove it if you're happy?

    Many thanks for your reply.

As a HSBC/newly retired user I have never experienced the problems with RAPPORT you describe.

This MAY be because I am more understanding of the limitations of computers than yourself.

    JESUS C****T!

    WADDLER_8 on my thread

Waddler_8. The point of my post. If i'm happy with it, (and have been for the last 5-6 yrs) why are all the so-called computer experts on here (Apart from yourself) telling me that RAPPORT is the cause of any problem on my laptop)
