Have I been really lucky?

Hi, and welcome to the forum.

I haven't been stopped by the police for many years but, in the distant past I was stopped a few times and only once prosecuted, and that was for 104mph on a 70mph motorway.
The other three times I was let off with a friendly warning, and one of those was for nearly 100mph on a 70 mph motorway like stretch of the A3.
In all cases I was polite and cooperative which probably turned a fine and points into a warning, apart from the 104mph incident which got me a fine and a two week driving ban.0 -
I'm pretty sure this is wrong. I was stopped by two officers for speeding. Despite all three of us knowing I was well over the limit (doing 65 in a 50) they let me on my way after breathalyzing me.
I know that the link below isn't an official law site, but they seem to think that police evidence alone can be good enough.

The requirements to provide additional evidence supporting
opinion evidence have proved to be a fertile source of litigation. The
opinion evidence of two police officers speaking as to the speed of a vehicle at
the same moment in time can support each other's opinion evidence. However,
supporting evidence is usually provided nowadays by technology such as the
speedometer of a police vehicle, radar equipment, VASCAR or by a laser speed
measuring device0 -
Looks like a good bit of policing, presumably looking for drinking/theft etc, rather than speeding, but you presumably now have more respect for plod after a gentle warning than if they had booked you? and presumably they had "real criminals" to catch at that time of a night?I am a mortgage adviser. You should note that this site doesn't check my status as a Mortgage Adviser, so you need to take my word for it. Thanks for all the replies.
There was two policemen present but the one I spoke to seemed like he wanted to get on his way, maybe they were finishing at 10?
I also reckon if I was in the car with a few mates then I wouldn't have been so lucky.
Still expecting something to drop through the post box in the new year though tbh, hopefully not though.0 -

Relax...if they had wanted to send you to court they would have given you a verbal notice of intended prosecution (NIP) or a written summons/TOR (traffic offence report).
TBH I let off most people with a verbal warning rather than using a more official sanction unless it is a repeat offender or they fail the attitude test.0 -

but I would have a convo like this.
Police- Do you know why we've stopped you?
Me- im not sure.
P- Whats your name?
Me- you already know it form the check you ran before pulling me
P- Where you going?
Me- up this road, then down another then who knows.
P- Where do you work?
Me- whats that got to do with anything.
P- Watch your speed.
Me- would rather watch the road ahead, than be distracted by watching my speedometer.
P-just watch your speed.
Me- MMMMMMMMMM OK what if crash watching it will you do for driving without due care even though you instructed me to watch my speed?
I assume your comment is sarcastic?
If you were to speak to a Police Officer in such i way i would expect a NIP in the post.
And it would be deserved.
A PO can use their discretion on wether to issues a warning, issue a FP or refer the mstter to the court.0 -
