Have I been really lucky?

Hi all, first post here.

I was driving to work last night at 9.50pm and was pulled over by the police for speeding.

Was doing about 55 in a 40 zone, no excuses on my part, I'm prepared to take whatever comes my way.

Weird thing was when the police officer came to talk to me the conversation went like this...

Police- Do you know why we've stopped you?
Me- Yes, for going too fast.
P- Whats your name?
Me- My name (obvs not giving out on forum)
P- Where you going?
Me- Work
P- Where do you work?
Me- My workplace (again...)
P- Watch your speed.
Me- I thought he had said 'whats your speed?' which I know doesn't make any sense but I responded, about 50, was not entirely sure tbh.
P- Well it was considerably more than that, just watch your speed.
Me- Ok.

Police then wandered back to his car and I went on my way. No license check, insurance check, no ticket, no speed gun thing, no NIP. Did not ask my address or anything.

Do you think I can expect a court summons or have I been let off?

Thanks in advance for any replies.

your OK its just a friendly warning.

but I would have a convo like this.

Police- Do you know why we've stopped you?
    Me- im not sure.
    P- Whats your name?
Me- you already know it form the check you ran before pulling me
    P- Where you going?
Me- up this road, then down another then who knows.
    P- Where do you work?
Me- whats that got to do with anything.
    P- Watch your speed.
Me- would rather watch the road ahead, than be distracted by watching my speedometer.
    P-just watch your speed.
Me- MMMMMMMMMM OK what if crash watching it will you do for driving without due care even though you instructed me to watch my speed?

go and buy a lottery ticket as its obviously your lucky day!!
he may have been on his way to something more important (like a tea break back at the station), or just had a bit of seasonal good will in him, but it would seem he has let you off with just a warning. a bit of good old fashioned sensible policing.
    nice one !!

Yep, by the time the second smarmy reply was uttered the notebook would have been out, and the overspeed was probably high enough percentage for full prosecution before the beak = £££.

OP did it right, also actually going to/from work as opposed to just zooming aimlessly round the town like some of the baseball hatted crowd might have helped, Officer would have been looking for evidence of drinking too.

    Lucky.

Sounds like one to me - real policemen use discretion because a gentle warning (if the circumstances are appropriate) can be far more effective than leaving another disillusioned person out there.

I often get a similar thing happening to me (as I can be going to/from work at odd hours). They were probably checking to see if you had been drinking and not really bothered about the speed.
