Me- im not sure.
P- Whats your name?
Me- you already know it form the check you ran before pulling me
P- Where you going?
Me- up this road, then down another then who knows.
P- Where do you work?
Me- whats that got to do with anything.
P- Watch your speed.
Me- would rather watch the road ahead, than be distracted by watching my speedometer.
P-just watch your speed.
Me- MMMMMMMMMM OK what if crash watching it will you do for driving without due care even though you instructed me to watch my speed?
Pretty sure you just failed the attitude test right there. What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?0 -

Yeah a complete smart !!!. However, I would not have admitted to why I had been stopped, that's self incrimination. If you just say I don't know then let them tell you. Happened to me, said I was not sure they said I was speeding and to watch out in future then on my way, there is no point in being a smart !!! about it by withholding your name etc, they are just trying to establish if you are insured, the owner etc etc.
In 20 years of driving I have only had one jobs-worth stopping me who got all excited when I told him I never had an MOT on my car, on my car which was a year old, he was a bobby on the beat who should have known better and ended up making me wait until they got some backup who then proceeded to send me on my way with an apology. I had no idea why I was stopped either, it wasn't speeding.0 -

The other way of looking at it, of course, is that if you say you don't know, then you could easily be viewed as admitting driving without due care and attention...there is no point in being a smart !!! about it by withholding your name etc, they are just trying to establish if you are insured, the owner etc etc.
Indeed.
I am quite intrigued by this technology that the Police apparently have which can identify who's driving a car from the outside, though. Clever, that.0 -
Sounds like copper didnt have evidence agaisnt you; was traffic or equipment not working/registering speed etc. At which point the attitude wouldnt have mattered and id been the same, awkward.0

That's a good !!!!!! way to get prosecuted.
To be fair, I would have handled the conversation differently to the OP, but yes, agreed. Walking straight into the coppers notebook. You just need to politely not answer the questions, or be politely ambiguous.
Police- Do you know why we've stopped you?
Me- I'm not sure.
P- Whats your name?
Me- Joe (say your first name only, it's not rude to give your first name and can even be taken as an informal way of being friendly)
P- Where you going?
Me- I'm just on my way home officer... (no need to say where, he already knows)
P- Where do you work?
Me- I work in Wilmslow but I'm going home. (again no need to say where, there's a good chance he knows your occupation)
P- Watch your speed.
Me- Ok officer.
P-just watch your speed.
Me- Ok officer, thanks very much.0 -
If there was more than one copper in the police car then I believe that they don't need specialist speed measuring equipment.0

I'm pretty sure this is wrong. I was stopped by two officers for speeding. Despite all three of us knowing I was well over the limit (doing 65 in a 50) they let me on my way after breathalyzing me.
In my defence, it was very late at night and I wasn't aware that the speed limit had changed from 70 to 50 and it's a road I don't drive very often, something I said to the two officers while they breath'd me.0 -
Honestly, the levels of paranoia are hilarious...
How on earth do you think he "knows your occupation"?
Last time I went to a police station, they brought up some sort of 'file' on me and while it was only an abstract description of me (name, age, address) under occupation it had 'Software Engineer'. It doesn't take much effort to find out. I'm pretty sure one of the questions on the census was job wasn't it?0
