just popping in quickly to say - glad xmas all went well and good luck with the family visiting.
soon everything settles down and you can crack on with your goals. I think its good to break it down into chunks

Wow Eyebright your budget planner sounds amazing! I too would have been exited to receive that!
I know what you mean about budget when guests are visiting. When my family visit our food budget goes out the window. Simple things like milk consumption seems to treble. Usually 2 pints lasts OH all week (I am allergic to milk) but when parents visit it lasts a day, they seem to beltfeed tea:rotfl:
Oh dear about the shed though, is it quite big? We tend to store everything in the Garage (except cars as neither will fit.....well Hubby's won't fit full stop and mine won't with all the carp in the garage:o)
I know it seems annoying that obey will go tm that and not debt but as you say at least the debt isn't growing to afford the replacement. Can I ever learn this budgeting lark? So far it's not looking promising
Lloyds loan - gone forever! :T
Bank of Mum and Dad gone forever!
Emergency Fund £1500 :T0 -

Thanks LAM, lovely to "see" you! I just keep telling myself it's just a few days, then I can crack on with debt busting. Just having sorted out my signature has made me feel a wee bit better. On January 1st I'm hoping to post my budget. I always think having someone else cast their eyes over it is really useful! I hope you and yours had a lovely Christmas too.

I was SO excited with it, it has a section for use as a spend diary, so I can keep track of where my Misc Spends goes to. This is where money gets spent frivolously, and where I'm hoping to claw some back.
I'm being philisophical about the shed. Once we have a new one I'd like to think we can not worry about needing a new one for a good 10 years. This is what life is like, and this is what we need to be ready to deal with! I would have preferred a little more time to get myself in a better position, but hey ho, it is what it is and we will work with it. Unfortuantely we don't have a garage, so we store alot of things in the shed, like OH's expensive mountain bike, so it needs to be sturdy and secure, hence the urgency. OH is off to purchase some shiplap (whatever that is!) today, to try and shore it up. I think we can get the money together quite soon. I had a look on B&Q last night and a 8x6 is about £240-260. OH will no doubt try to con me into getting a bigger and therefore more expensive one, but I will tell him where to go! :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:I'm being more stern this year, and holding my ground.
Thanks for dropping in Archer, hope all is well with you? Will pop over and catch up with the diaires later if I find time!0 -

This is sooooooo true, exactly the same happens here! I don't know where it goes!!!! We go through 8 pints a week between the two of us, mostly in tea and cereal, but also from making sauces from scratch, so imagine how much we get through when 2 adults and 2 teeange boys descend on the house... :eek:0 -
I think we might be sorted for the shed! :T Received a total of £190 :eek: in money from my family for Christmas! £120 of it will go on the skirting boards we need for the lounge, leaving £70 towards the cost of a shed. Combine that with £117 x 2 which is the council tax money we don't have to pay for 2 months and voila!!!!! £304, which is the shed cost covered according to OH. That's what I call a result! It also means my House Maintenance fund lives to fight (and hopefully grow) another day
:D
I'm also owed £55 from my family for sponsorship for a Zumbathon I did in November. I put the money in for them on the understanding they would pay me when they saw me next (I.E this visit lol). I'm hoping that will help to keep my budget for the month on track as it will help cover for food, eating out and doing stuff whilst they are here.
I feel like I can breathe a bit easier now

That's fantastic news Eyebright so pleased for you. I always forget the CT is only paid over 10 months so that's a great way to afford the essential shed and still maintain the all essentiall emergency reserves.
It's nice when unexpected money shows up, my In laws usually give us money and MIL's cheque arrived on queue but FIL's is delayed
that said given I have mislaid the £500 cheque for Mr A's uniform I am about £450 down at the moment
Glad you can offset the costs a bit too! Even if it only covers milk! Can I ever learn this budgeting lark? So far it's not looking promising

I usually forget about the CT being over 10 months, but since I have had my LBM, I have noticed little things like this!
I'm really pleased too, my family have been so generous bless them. Though as a result I spent all of last night worrying (and therefore not sleeping well), worrying that I haven't spent enough on them, especially my grandparents
I'm sure they won't notice or mind, and every year they tell me not to buy them anything as there is nothing they need...but well, I want to, and well, I'm worrying about it! Bleurgh!
On the plus side I just have to work today until about 1pm then I have 3 lovely days off! Won't be restful as I will be entertaining my parents and brothers, but hopefully I can catch up on my sleep and have some lie-ins. OH wants to have a party at home on New Years Eve. Just with his family and mine. We did this last year with his family and they didn't leave until 3.30am :eek: and OH was still up and listening to music on his own at 5am. I am not a party animal, and would have preferred them to leave about 1am. So not really looking forward to this very much
I feel like such a party pooper, but it's really not my thing. I'd much rather have a quiet evening in on my own, whilst the party animals went into town to do their thing. Hopefully I can make sure it won't be as late a one this year, as brothers are staying in the house and they are going home with parents on New Years Day, and they will want to leave in the morning.
I need a week off work I think, once everyone has gone and OH is back at work! Then I can recharge my batteries and finally relax. I have worked so much this last month, and I'm really starting to flag now. Still it's for a good cause, as all extra money is gratefully received!
I hope everyone who reads this little diary is having a lovely weekend! Hoping to have a roast chicken sunday dinner today, as a chicken will be much cheaper than the Indian takeaway we had on Friday, and the pub meal yesterday!! Also I am sick of eating rubbish food, my body is craving delicious, home-cooked, nutritious food :rotfl:0 -
Morning hun,
I sympathise with you about the NYE get together, thankfully neither DH or I are party animals and would much rather fall asleep in front of the tv. Fingers crossed for you that it won't go on too long.
Hope work is ok for you today and that you're not rushed off your feet too much.
Have a lovely day today x0 -
I too sympathise re NYE - luckily we usually veg out on sofa and I usually fall asleep long before midnight lol :rotfl: sometimes we go to friends and then we can leave when we want.
We are still farming folk at heart even though we now live in suburbia and wake every day at 5:30 to see to horses before work so we are always tired lol
Make some time for yourself - its very easy at this time of year to suffer from a little burn out x0 -
Thanks for all the sympathy re: New Year both of you
:) It's nice to know I'm not the odd one out, and that there are people like me who prefer quiet evenings in, and early nights.
Family want to go shopping today. At the moment there's a gale blowing and it's tipping down with rain. So it could be a NSD if that continues
, though the weather man seems to think it will blow over late morning, so we may have to go! I have a £20 clothes budget for each month, and can roll it over if I want to. So I might see if I can get some jumpers in Primark if we do go. I rarely buy clothes and it's showing. Some of mine are getting raggy now! :eek:Will NOT go over this budget though. Also need to nip to the post office to collect a parcel before it closes, it's one of OH's presents that somehow didn't make it in time!
I'm starting to get really worried about my food budget now, it's rocketing up at a silly rate. We are going to have to be super frugal once family have gone home to make it to the end of the month within budget
:o All that I don't have a clue what's for dinner tonight :rotfl::rotfl:
Have a good day all!!0
