Another vote for the panny. My first was of unknown make for a fiver in a car boot sale, just bought to see whether I liked it. I did, so much so that I bought the panny 2501i and have turned out a successful variety of bread, buns, cakes etc., ever since.
I use Dove or Sainsbugs own bread flour and Allinsons yeast, I don't use butter but substitute it with olive oil, together they give us the texture and taste we like most.
As for the little hole in the bottom, it does have a purpose - add a little extra dab of butter in it, yummy!0 -
You guys have got me wanting to get my breadmaker out of the loft again!
It's a Panny and it got put up there when the ex left as I was too miserable to do pretty much anything and also it took me too long to get through a loaf of bread before it went off if it's only me. But it might make my daughters eat more bread.
Might ask dad to get it out at the weekend and start baking again. Used to love my breadmaker, and made pizza dough and all sorts in it. Just have to find a spot for it now as where it used to sit (on top of my spare freezer) is full of random parp now!
Just hope the instructions are inside the machine, but if they're not, I'll be able to find instructions/recipes off the net, won't I?Pink Sproglettes born 2008 and 2010

Go on Pollyanna, treat yourself and get the panasonic going again, yeh, I'm pretty sure all instructions are available to download from the panasonic website, bake the small loaves, and freeze leftovers as breadcrumbs. I use the tins of allinson yeast rather than the packets - make sure you get the green one for use with a breadmaker though. Any SM own-brand breadflour works for me. I haven't had any problems with the nut/fruit dispenser when I use it, although 90% of the time I'm on a plain white loaf these days.0

My first breadmaker was a Hinari, given to us by a friend of Mr LW who was buying himself a new one; when that finally died, we bought a Panasonic (the one without the nut/raisin dispenser) and find it really good. I cannot make bread by hand, as I have arthritic hands plus, now, carpal tunnel/cubital tunnel syndrome, and Mr LW does love decent bread, so we felt it was a necessary piece of equipment to have.
I get my bread flour from the local farmers market - admittedly it's not the cheapest option but it makes lovely bread. I use a 50/50 mix of white and wholemeal flour. I use Doves Farm yeast, I get better results than with Allinsons.
I suppose I make a loaf roughly every alternate day; Mr LW takes sandwiches to work for his lunch, so we go through quite a bit even though there's only the two of us. I also make my own pizza bases. If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0 -
Packet mixes will always cost more overall. Yeast (easy bake not dried active) is cheapest if bought in a tin (98p from Asda and at 2 loaves a day lasts me a month). I use oil instead of butter, and Asda strong flour.
A loaf take 3 minutes to set up, two loaves takes 3 minutes to set up if done together (I put the second into Tupperware). So worth saving money over buying packet mixes x
The S2500 is the 'basic' version. The S2501 has a second paddle to make rye loaves and a dispenser. I never use these, so I'm not sure why I spent the extra £20 on the extra features
I always planned on making Rye bread...We spend money we don't have, on things that we don't need, to impress people we don't like. I don't and I'm happy! Mortgage Free Wannabe :dance:Overpayments Made: £5400 - Interest Saved: £11,550 - Months Saved: 240 -
I am dusting down my Panasonic bread maker, I have bought a bread mix, just to try again .... Last time I didn't like the bread cooked in the bread maker, but someone suggested I just use it to make the dough.....
Question is.... when the dough is done, and I take it out of the bread maker, will I need to leave it rise before cooking????Work to live= not live to work0
