For cooking, search online for " a girl called Jack", jack Monroe's blog, she has loads of good and cheap recipes - she famously managed to feed herself for a tenner a week.
And yes, it's normal to wear plenty of clothes to bed. (When I was a kid, one of my friends used to get ice flowers on the inside of her windows in winter, and I asked my mum why we didn't have ice flowers, and she said "Because we have storage heaters, our house is too warm for them." We were well off compared to our neighbours, but I didn't realise it then.) I can recommend making sure you've got a warm layer underneath you at night, either a thick fleece under the bottom sheet, or even better, a thin summer-weight duvet. You'd be amazed at the difference it makes.:)
It does get better, and realising that you have to tackle debts means that you're ahead of the game - a lot of your friends may be sinking deeper and deeper into debt, while you've realised what's going on, and are ready to do something about it. It isn't instant, but sometimes just drawing up a timetable helps - even if it takes years, there will be an end one day. It's easy to feel low in the dark winter months, but they don't last!0
