When I was on the work program I applied for jobs I couldn't do as well as the jobs I didn't want.

I just kept my fingers crossed that I didn't get the jobs I didn't want or interviews for the jobs I couldn't do.

Which is exactly what 'the right wing' are apparently moaning about.

This thread is one big self fulfilling prophecy!

I understand that today more than ever we need to look at ways to decrease our benefits bill. I think correct me if I am wrong that in brief the new system is designed to encourage people to take jobs and get off benefits.

Perhaps not the perfect job but something. I admire that fact that you asked them at the interview.

We recently had a recruitment drive and it was difficult to find the right people but I think in the main we did. We could tell though that some had simply applied to tick a box and had no interest in the job itself.

I understand that there has to be a system and therefore some form of measurement but it wasted a lot of time.

P.s I hope I never find out what it is like to be unemployed.

Interesting to hear from 'the other side' as it were.

As a lone parent I am not required to work full time, I am allowed to look for part time work. Part time work is hard to find so I have been told by the JC I have to apply for full time positions and then mention at interview that I can only do part time and request the employer find someone else to job share with me.

I do understand where the job centre are coming from, if I don't try and don't ask I will never know, I might actually get a job this way. However I can also put myself in the employers shoes, say they interview 10 people I am counting on the fact that another of those 10 asks the same thing, if the JC centre are telling everyone to do what I have to then I suppose it is possible that can happen but I suspect on most of the occasions I would be wasting the employers time.

But that doesn't mean I wasn't looking for work, I'm working now. I was simply fulfilling my requirements when there were no suitable jobs on offer.

I really hope you get something.

I would not have had a problem of job share. TBH For us it was about finding the right person, so I would not of minded. At least you are trying which is a lot more than some.

Think the biggest problem for us was originally we had only wanted two new staff members but in the end we just could not split two candidates. So we ended up offering all three positions.

Thats interesting, so in fact it sounds like you would have been pleased if one of those candidates wanted a job share/part time. Thank you for your input that has made me feel a lot more positive about applying for jobs this way.

Sorry if this looks like spamming but I have to get it off my chest. It is really annoying to see right wing views get so much attention. These views are so stupid and simplistic.

I apply for any job I can find. Now it seems that applying for any job is bad too because I am apparently, according to the right wing, "just applying for jobs to get my benefits".

Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

There will come a day when these ignorant people will find themselves unemployed. I don't wish that on anyone, but I hope it happens to them one day and they'll see how hard life is on the dole!!

    Idiots.

absolutely agree. I will also quite happily tell my advisor if necessary that it could be him one day.
