Hi Lehoy7 you seem to have a general plan in place that you want to save and understand its important... which is great.

Can I recommend a book for you? 'Millionaire next door'

Also, your saving for some great goals in having a car and going to America... maybe quantify them... think about what you can save now and see what a realistic target that would still be motivating for you would be.... I find financial planning - or thinking I will hit 'x' by 'x time frame' very rewarding...

Good luck and just post a thread in the savings forum place next time - you will probably get better answers than the one I just gave...

Hey thanks lalman, it was really nice to hear your input and I think having reasonable targets to start with and reaching them by 'x time frame' is a very good idea

i appreciate that and will start a thread but if anyone else has any ideas/help, please let me know :j

I don't mean to be rude or anything.... But just for a general idea are your earnings like average from your job? And are you just literally saving every penny you get.

I want to do this challenge next year but i only get a low income.

Everybody's situation is different, Cellby, so we are not in competition with each other, it's all about personal targets.

Do join up for next year, and if your target is a hundred quid or so, that will be a hundred more than you may have had if you hadn't set out to save it. It's all good and you will be very welcome indeed! :)

:j Payday has finally happened! :j

#077 declaring £251.57 this month. Takes my total up to £1,908.48 :) As long as there are no major emergencies I will beat my target next month. It's amazing what a difference a year can make. I could only predict saving £1,000 for the year, at the start of the year. I have doubled that! I will join again next year with a £2,000 target. slowlyfading I understand that you will put a link on this thread to the new thread once it is up and running so I will comment on the new thread to ask you to add me ;)

5 weeks to go everyone :D

    Mortgage today = £161,690.76
    300 271 payments to go.

    Payday update!

I managed to save £1,142 in November, bringing my 2014 total so far to £9,565 and my overall total to £83,688. Whoop!!!!

I'm not going to hit £12,000 in 2014, but hey. It's still important to have a goal :)

Well done to everyone who's declared, only a month to go! Who knows what our final 2014 tally will be :D

Tara that is a brilliant amount to save! When did you start saving the £83k? I have a very long way to go before getting a deposit together (I do own my flat but shared equity so I'm kind of doing it backwards - got the flat, now saving the deposit!) I like hearing the inspiring stories of others, they just spur me on even more! :)

£1160 declared for November meaning I have hit my increased target for the year! :)

We had a lovely few days away in Belgium, were strict on the spending money but still managed to bring some wine and beer back home, oh, and some lovely Belgian chocolates...

I've also ordered my OH's Christmas presents, so it's only Christmas food to sort out. We always agree a set budget each year for presents- this year £130. Mainly so we have some things to open on Christmas morning.

November total was boosted by an unexpected £25 compensation from Nationwide for messing up an ISA transfer (not actually a big deal, so a pleasant resolution) and £27 in dividends from some shares. Also had a little bonus from work which was added.

Nectar double up was great for me this week, used £60 of nectar points and got a new posh kettle (OH got the matching toaster), a load of new bedding and a magnum of Prosecco (to take to friends for New Years) for free! I love free shopping :)

Please add me for next year SF, not sure on target yet but working on a mortgage clearing strategy!

I managed £354.98 this month and have added my total to the form. Hopefully I will make £4500 or thereabouts by the end of the year.

I am so ready for next year!
