She replied "Anything I'm not bothered really"

Run screaming out of the house? From a friend's house, a friend who kindly invited you to spend Christmas day at his, because you are alone too? After telling him "you're not bothered, anything will do"?0 -
Kinda depends what you like doing too, and what you have in common, I'd invest in a good board game, that can take a couple of hours if you like that sort of thing, once you have factored in the walk and the cooking that's pretty much the day sorted and all there is left is the evening to get drunk and stuff face with chocs!0

I'm not quite sure, that if I said "anything will do", out of politeness, I would expect a kebab and a boxed set of Dad's Army!
Well, not unless I was over the age of 70!

Dear God, spare me from pitying friends who invite me share a kebab and a box set of Dad's Army or Are You Being Served!
I suspect the friend is simply being polite by saying they're not bothered. Might be nice to offer them a choice - or perhaps put the ball back in their court by suggesting they bring some DVD's, CD's and games of their choice.0 -
I don't see any "pitying" here. She was alone for Christmas, he offered for her to come to his because he'll be alone too.
I really don't see what's wrong with a takeaway and a dvd. I'm sure he's open to suggestions if she doesn't like what he has to offer!
Maybe I don't have such high standards as yours when I'm invited by my friends. Just spending time together is nice. I certainly wouldn't poo-poo his choices in entertainment or food, let alone "run away screaming".0 -
