Street preaching in Belfast City centre this week along with a very loud speaker, so loud I moved along so i'm pretty sure it would impact on businesses. Ask the police for advice or to intervene on your behalf.0

Is he manic?0

Also, silly as it may seem, I don't want to be known as the business that spoke out and was boycotted. My business is known as being friendly and welcoming to all. This is difficult when the atmosphere directly outside is so inclement because of these guys preaching really loudly. I've watched people stop and browse in my window, then come in browsing. On the days these guys are there, people move quickly past to a quieter part of the town...
I'm with you on that. Apart from the fact they may turn aggressive you would be identifying yourself as someone who disagrees with your presence and that could be an issue if and when you make a formal complaint to the council or the police.
It's also very difficult to reason with people who are so passionate because they probably won't be able to see past their own efforts to do good work for the Lord.
Stay anonymous would be my advice.0 -
Great idea, please report on any success you have, so we can then lobby to get gay pride banned from the town centre for disrupting traffic and business and causing offence.
Would have started another thread but of course the hierarchy of inequalities sorry equalities would have resulted in it being pulled as it's only - AGAIN - Christian protestants who get attacked on this board, whether it's this rubbish, our nut case friend emmet threatening bombings, etc etc ad infinitum.
Where did live and let live go? Oh I forgot, verminous liberals have only ever espoused it as a deconstructionist tactic to enforce their own "rights" whilst prohibiting those of others.0 -

Ah come on now. That's a bit OTT. For a start you're only going to get Christian Protestants doing this because only Protestants have this evangelical outlook. And you're forgetting that they'll only do it in Christian Protestant areas so it's only Christian Protestants, or at least Protestants, who are going to be affected.
So why shouldn't somebody raise an objection? Especially if it's harming their business.
Not everything is about the difference in religions in this province. Some things have real, pragmatic reasons why they should be opposed in some circumstances.
As for Gay Pride: I don't agree with it but I recognise they have a right to have their wee parade, just the same as the Orange do on the 12th. Both disrupt trading but I'm sure that gay pride brings its own crowd with it who will spend, perhaps in pubs and restaurants and the same goes for the Orange who are bringing increasing numbers of tourists to see their walk.
Nope, let the OP have his say and report these evangelicals if he feels he needs to. There are plenty of other places in various towns for them to do their preaching in front of good crowds.
EDIT: As for Emmet. He might be a nutcase but he's our nutcase.0 -
Your response confirms my concern that any complaint would be construed as an attack on one particular segment of society.
I'm simply a small business owner, trying to survive, and highlighting something that is impacting business in the town. I don't wish to 'attack' anyone.
I would love to continue to 'live and and let live' as you put it. The truth of the matter is that the behavior of these street preachers is putting additional pressure on my very existence as a small business owner.0 -

Don't take any heed of him. Most of us know where you're coming from and have applied common sense to your issue. Phone your local council and discuss the matter with them. They will advise you of the best way to proceed. They may be able to take action to help you. That may also involve discussing the matter with the PSNI.
Neither of these two bodies will release your name to anyone so as long as you keep schtum about who you've been talking to you won't find any reporters turning up to your premises or your home. If they do they'll be doing so on speculation or to get a general opinion about what's going on, with you as a "local shopkeeper". You keep your own counsel and tell them nothing more than they need to hear.
I can't see anything more you can do - other than nothing, and that's going to be of no benefit to you.0 -

Gays have higher disposable income than the rest of us since they don't have families to raise. Who else do you think buys £300 shirts and £200 trousers?“What means that trump?” Timon of Athens by William Shakespeare0 -
I am ok with the gay pride day. It is colourful and fun and normally passes off peacefully. There is little alcohol-fuelled antics on display and I think we just have to be a bit more tolerant of others. We may not agree with what they stand for but for one day a year we can live with it.Val0

Just print off some materials from the Satanic Temple of New York, so you can have an exchange of information...

Excellent advice, that should do it.
I always found those street preachers really opressive and offensive when I was a kid. Have always been a 'non-believer' and just didn't get it.*Look for advice, not 'advise'*
*Could/should/would HAVE please!*
