  • Finally getting back to more frugal ways. OH and me walked to our local Lidl today to do our weekly shop, washing done and out on the line (thanks to a beautiful Autumn day here) and I am making OHs birthday cake for hi birthday on Wed.

Food shopping delivered this morning (I used some Clubcard vouchers doubled up to pay for a delivery saver subscription) and now have a well re-stocked pantry and freezer (I ran it down desperately when DH was out of work).

DH has finished his first week at his new job and loves it so every cloud does have a silver lining it seems. He's on weekly pay which is new to us but I've worked out what needs to go in what pot, what needs to go into an envelope and am opening another current account to house certain monies so am up for the challenge.

Great news is that we got the email saying his back pay from the NI Govt fund has been assessed and should be in the bank Tues/Weds. It was 300 less that expected however it is on the way. We'll be starting September with everything paid back up to date, new dd's set up and wages coming in (maybe even a couple of hundred in the savings). All in all a good update :)

  • ooh well done niki on the back pay, boo to it being less! Always nerve wracking those first few days at a new place!
Ive applied for an evening job only maybe once a week, but it fits with the wee ones, gives us some pennys fingers crossed because its perfect for me , and as it's in my field of expertise? (lol) ive got a shot of getting it!

Sorry I've not been posting for a while, sadly my dear Mum passed away 4 weeks ago and after the funeral I went to stay with my DS and his family for a while. However, I'm back now and need to get back to my frugal ways so am depending on this thread to keep me on the straight and narrow :)
I'm having a clear-out with a view to having a car boot sale next Sunday, weather permitting. It will possibly be the last opportunity I'll get this year as I'm away for the following weekend and then the weather will be starting to get cold. And I don't do cold! (Wimp :o)
Have a good BH Monday, hope the weather stays fine for some gardening :)

    Rampant Recycler Debt-free and Proud!
Really hoping it's ok to start this now as I have only just spotted in after doing a Google search. I also look forward to prepping myself NOW for a more frugal 2015 year!

My first goal is to take things slowly... so I will plan not to buy anything for the next 30 days. This does not include ESSENTIAL food or college fees or services.

I'm not planning to save anything for saving sake as we have debt but what is saved and left over at the end of each month will go on the credit cards AFTER being paid again.
Welcome to the Fred and hope all goes well for you being frugal from here on.

    Hello!

Finally coming out of lurk mode and would like to join the challenge (better late than never right?!)

I lived beyond my means for a few years after graduating so started this year with £1800 credit card debt and at the bottom of my overdraft. Now I'm down to the last £500 on my credit card and thanks to more frugal ways I will be less than £30 in my overdraft by pay day! So pleased :)

I've been reading his thread for a while (I commute into London so lots of time on trains and buses for reading) and I can't thank you all enough for the inspiration and entertainment! Hopefully I can start to share what's working for me too and pay back to the community :)

    Happy Thursday everyone!
Welcome and look forward to hearing all your ideas. Hope you enjoy the banter

Such good news and I'm so pleased for you.

We still in the middle of sorting out the money as opposite happened here - DH gone from weekly to monthly plus O/T is paid a month in arrears. We will just about manage though with a bit of financial juggling (and a bit more on the ccs temporarily :( ) but it will be better eventually :j

Glad you're back with us Sparrer and hope things go well for you.

Hope you all have a super Tuesday
